well first day back at work after 2 weeks holiday and first thing I did was hand my notice in to the head:-)

 

decided after been told that if i wanted more money and career prospects to go down the road decided to go to the extreme and go to the other side of the world....NEW ZEALAND here i come.

 

me and the wife got ourselves working holiday visas so thought sod it you only live once.:D:D

 

will post my job on here when i know more etc

Nice, Christchurch is good and usually not too hot. They (flowery, city promoter types) call it the garden city and it has the benefit of housing not being stupidly inflated like in Auckland (though it is starting to get more reasonable).

yeah i did a months tour of the whole of nz last year had to go back..

 

no work sorted yet but not really interested in doing IT work out there but probably will

Just looking at this job SEEK jobs database and employment advice is $40,000 - $45,000 allot or about right? (generalising obviousley)

 

$40k is about right for that kind of roll (generalizing) you get a bit more for Linux knowledge as that is currently less common. It also comes with a car which is nice.

 

Just had to delete the Sequence=11& bit from the URL to get to it as the site said that my session had expired. Others may need to do the same for my links above to get them to work.

What's the cost of living like, compared to the UK (assuming you have knowledge of the latter?)

i left mine on his desk & sent an email on friday

bugger em :D

 

'grats on the NZ trip

not jealous at all :p

 

i'm off to work with grown ups in the NHS

make a nice change from working with & for children

(they know who they are, gits!) :mad:

EDIT: Oh heck I'm gonna be nosey, how easy was it to get a visa and how long does it last for? I'm very tempted to emigrate in the next few years, trouble is I think you have to be a bit more skilled then a jack of all trades technician to be what they want.

well i got the working holiday visa so it lasts for a year but can be extended to 2 but you then you have to do a medical.but if you get the 2 year one you can only work for 1 year.cost us £80 have to be 18-30 for the goverment one but bunac do one for 18-35

I went out there in 2004.

Brilliant time did the whole Nth, Sth Billy Connoly trail drove myself and the brood went everywhere and spent the last 10 days in Russel in the Bay of Islands.

 

Fantastic, made a few calls and got three job interviews the same day!

The money was good and the cost of living proportional.

I would have emigrated in 2004 I had everything sorted until the Mother in Law became ill and my wife had no option but to become her carer.

 

SYNACK will tell you, the place is about 20% larger than the UK and only has a population of about 4 Million! That a lot of empty space.

 

But it has it share of problems, there are race issues, crime, rape and murder etc etc, but with a fraction of the population of the UK all of the issues are proportional.

 

Property prices were incredible in 2004 however they spiralled in the last few years creating similar problems to the UK.

Auckland is getting as expensive as the SE of the UK with properties on the North Shore in excess of 1 Million UK Pounds:eek:

 

There are loads of specialist forums to help you get relocated, don't worry too much about being granted a visa, if you are under 56 and in good health and have the experience and speak english as your 1st language you will get a job offer and in turn all the points you need to secure it.

I was 49 when I applied and scored 146 on my first attempt. It took only 3 weeks to get my EOI accepted, I had the Meds done then the Mother In Law syndrome happened so it was back to square one.

 

There are plenty of Kiwi's still working well into their 70's clearly the stress of the 21st century hasn't reached them yet.

 

If you are young enthusiastic and have a degree it's a formality 100 points guaranteed.

 

Now I am probably going to have to get my kids out there first and let them sponsor me and the wife.

Whatever, Im still going - to the Northland, KeriKeri thats where I want to be.

 

So I'm going to tell you all, this is the worse place on earth, a hell hole, do not go there, you will all hate it!

 

That way, there might still be a place for me if/when I can ever get things sorted out here.

I really don't want it overrun with ex pat edugeekers!

I attend a night school course that is about to start teaching JADE:

Jade 6

We were told they take on trainees in NZ, and run a graduate scheme for institutions. Might be worth looking into? Not sure what JADE is like a language, or what the pay is like however...

yeah i noticed this there was trail going on about a father whol killed his babies while i was there.the one thing which seemed to happy daily was road deaths so many crashes esp Auckland area.

 

theres alot of gang culture in auckland too many kids trying to copy american gang culture (thats what i thought)
