IMHO There are now lots of extras options and features which should have been there some time ago. At least XP should be able to pick these up if you run your DCs off 2008. 17

What i want to know is why Microsoft couldn't make folders look like that in Vista, aside from the feature updates design wise Server 2008 looks like a subtle design improvement over 2003. Wouldn't mind it as my desktop OS.

Dos_Box Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 Yeah. Pretty much any configuration that you could do in Explorer or Control Panel is mirrored in group policies. And about time too. I especially like the mapped drives, environmental variables and most of all not having a random system log a user on with US keyboard settings

boomam Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Some of those features look great. The registry ones look handy, and it looks like the settings are finally laid out logically! . Wouldnt mind moving to 2008 when the network here gets rebuilt, but our LEA wont support us if we do. .

I've setup Windows Server 2008 and figured "umm.. theres alot more policies in 2k8 then there are in xp.. how will I know what im configuring actually applies to Xp clients?" By installing this download to all my XP machines.. will that then allow me to just use pretty much any setting I like knowing it will work? Or does this just make XP compatible allowing it to use the new GP extensions for GP.. as its not adm or something is it. Anyway, i've just downloaded the XP client and went to distribute it via Software install in GP... only you can only deploy msi's and the updates an exe. How are you guys going to distribute it?
cookie_monster Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I'll be using WSUS to distribute the client. As with 2003 server all policies should have a description giving you the minimum OS requirements.

So basically this client will allow the perferred policies to be applied like mapped drives, reg settings etc. It won't allow any more policies then Windows Server 2003 already uses from a 2008 server. The new policies will only be applied to vista clients?
