The Discworld canon is huge (40 books) and unlike an adaptation of a single book it's much harder to mess with. It's not as if Pratchett didn't write women as the main characters in many of his books either to justify it. Also I think it's a very strange choice for Lady Sybil. Pretty much every description of her does not apply here.

I await the outrage at the gender flips! and spelling isnt it Vimes? as other have said though its not like theres a lack of female or even lead female characters in discworld so it seems a bit odd esp with the archchancelor isnt part of the point of uu to show how batty a group of similar people get without exterior influences? 1

The casting of her was already wildly off-mark from the books--recasting the one fat, older woman for a young hot thing is rather telling--but "the formidable Lady Sybil Ramkin, last scion of Ankh-Morpork’s nobility, who’s trying to fix the city’s wrongs with her chaotic vigilantism" is the complete flipping opposite of the kind, motherly Lady Sybil in the books, who rounds off Sam's sharp edges and kicks ass through empathy and understanding, who has a dragon sanctuary in her manor not a bloody bat cave. The looks is all weird and wrong, too. With GoT and Witcher etc. there's no shame in high fantasy on screen at the moment, so why are they going for this weird cybersteampunk look? I dunno. I had been optimistic, but I'm getting veeeery wary now. 1

I don't understand why you would take something like this with a very established and much loved world and muck about with it. exactly it doesn't seem to be in any way necessary messing about with a perfectly good and detailed concept just for the sake of it if it had all been done before and they were looking for a new angle I could understand - like has been done with Shakespeare and some classic films but this really seems to be a case of the prducers or director or writers - or something - just wanting to have more of a claim to being creative

It’s trendy * sigh * We go to see Shakespeare plays and for the first time in ages we recently saw a production where a King was actually played by a man. These are the historical plays, Henry V, etc... The production was Henry VI and the King was played by a male actor. The lead female part is Queen Margaret, Henry’s wife, who is a very strong character... which was also played by a man British casting has a reputation for being colourblind.. it would appear to be becoming gender blind too.

I'd be fine accepting that if we'd had a decent straight adaptation first for this to be the alternative to, but they've never done the Watch stuff before, and Vimes is my favourite 1
