We use a product called FrKeys to do this - https://www.frkeys.com/

Some of their screenshots might be a good starting point.

I might put these in for now as these would be the most likely languages:

French

ù Ù û Û ü Ü ÿ Ÿ à À â  æ Æ ç Ç é É è È ê Ê ë Ë ï Ï î Î ô Ô œ Œ

German

ä Ä ö Ö ü Ü ß ẞ

Spanish

Just to keep you all up to speed with developments:

Currently investigating a "visual on screen Page Break"

Currently investigating a "Basic form of character map with most common accented characters for French, German, Spanish" to go along side the existing character map.

Currently fixing "Comobox Font selection error check for non-regular fonts"

Currently fixing "Print font is ignored when printing using a different font. In other words the screen font gets printed not the print font as specified in the config file"

Currently fixing "Remove Page Breaks was visible even though no page breaks were in use"

Currently adding "Screen Font Name and Screen Font Size to the saved ExamText file, so that if you re-load the file, the screen options in use are displayed correctly"

Can this also include page background colour?

We've had a few pupils this year that have been entitled to blue or yellow pages because it's difficult (or at least, more difficult) to read black-on-white. I don't really know the specifics of it, but the exams officer assures me it's a thing, so I'm going to take her word on it lol.

IIRC loading an .examtext file that had had its background colour changed didn't load the change in colour. No big deal for me printing them out, probably not even a big deal for the kid writing the script, just one of those "If you're doing similar, what about..." things :)

(Sorry if I'm wrong, though, working from memory and don't have the files in question to hand any more!)

I've played around with it already but the issue I had was saving the selected backgroung to a readable string value that I could pass back to the software when opening an ExamText file. For which I was unsuccessful and no matter which method of converting the colour to ARGB or HTML colour, it was not consistent. SO this is a no go, sorry.

Feature Request:

Some of the language students are using word processing and require certain words/letters to have their accents on. This is possible using the Character Map button but this is also very big so a lot of time is wasted scrolling through. Also, clicking select then copy is more time consuming.

I was wondering if it's possible (maybe from a config setting) to put a list of specific letters and their accents on a bar somewhere. Down the side? Categorised by the language. Maybe have a drop down box to select the language to show specific accents. Just a thought.

just call me amazing!! :-) Feature Done!!

Amazing! Our SENCo will be happy. They are asking for a MAC to do their exams as it's easy to do accents by holding down keyboard keys. I'm glad we won't have to do this now. Not even sure if there is any decent word processing software available for MACs.

i might be being inept but is this in the release linked to the download higher up the thread or is it coming in the future?

Also is there some instructions on getting the dictionary in to it where necessary?

Change Log

2.1.8.0

FEATURE: A basic “Accent/Character Map” has been added for French, German and Spanish. The Character Map Button on the menu bar has now been expanded to two options: “Basic Accents/Characters” and “Launch Windows Character Map”.

2.1.7.9 Build Skipped

2.1.7.8 Build Skipped

2.1.7.7 Build Skipped

2.1.7.6

FIXED: When using “Visual Page Breaks”, the visual page break text would be counted towards the character and word counts respectively.

2.1.7.5

ADDED: Screen Font Name and Screen Font Size to the saved ExamText file, so that if you re-load the file, the screen options in use are displayed correctly.

2.1.7.4

FIXED: Print font is ignored when printing using a different font. In other words the screen font gets printed not the print font as specified in the config file.

2.1.7.3

ADDED: Visual Page Break has been added, to activate it, a config option of “VisualPageBreak” with value of 1 will activate it. Please note, if you overwrite the visual page break or any part of it, you will have to remove all page breaks and reinsert them. Altering the visual page break will make it visible when printing. It’s not ideal, but it’s the only way I could successfully do it with the limitations of an RTF WinForm control.

2.1.7.2

FIXED: “Remove Page Breaks” option was visible even though no page breaks were in use.

2.1.7.1

FIXED: Minimise To Taskbar Button doesn’t appear when enabled in config, since version 2.1.7.0 was released.

Hey,

Just a feature request. It's be nice if we could use system variables such as %HomeDrive% in the path for DefaultSave & DefaultOpen.

Hello,

I would love to update the exam laptops to the latest version, but I ran into an issue: Even though the config file says "ShowCandidateInfoScreenOnLaunch" is enabled, there is no pop up when I start the programme. It only appears when trying to print.

It does show up on starting when downgrading one version. Any pointers please?

Also: thank you so much for this handy little programme, saved me tons of work in the past year!

%HomeDrive% will only return the drive letter so what you need to use is actually %HomePath% which will return the UNC or local full path.

I will do it! :-)

I can program in any Environment Variable but the you would have to follow these simple guidelines:

The string must start AND end with % otherwise will default to desktop.

Make sure its is spelt correctly too :-)

I will ty to get it done in the next few weeks :-)

Hi,

Its probably a bug and I missed something out, does it work ok if you enable the splashscreen in the config?

If so, can you send me your none-working config file in a PM so I can debug it and fix the issue.

thanks

Ah, I've just been playing around with the setting for a bit and it does work now - I prefer it with the splashscreen on anyway.

Thank you so much for your quick reply, I am actually excited to get it updated on the laptops (I only just noticed it prints the coversheet with it if wanted...this is so helpful, thank you for all the work you do!!)

OK I have sorted it out so that 'DefaultOpenPath' and 'DefaultSavePath' can now use Environment Variables if specified between %%

I will release this as soon as I have fixed another bug I'm working on :-)

Sorry, the one I was thinking of was %HOMESHARE%.

Damn you're quick.

I know, thanks :-)

It will work with any ENV VAR and try to resolve the path, so dont worry :-)

Change Log

2.1.8.5

ADDED: New option in “Screen Options --> Background / Fonts” called “Application Menu text size”. The option if changed will allow the user to set the main menu bar/context menu font size larger or smaller to suit. There has been a config file option added to set default font size. The config option is called “DefaultAppMenuFontSize”, if nothing is set it will default to 12. If you change the screen font family in the options also the menu uses it also to keep consistency.

2.1.8.4

ADDED: Ability to specify environment variables for “DefaultBackupPath” Config Option.

2.1.8.3

ADDED: Ability to specify environment variables for “DefaultSavePath” Config Option.

2.1.8.2

ADDED: Ability to specify environment variables for “DefaultLOpenPath” Config Option.

2.1.8.1

ADDED: Added the EWP version number on the Splash Screen.
