Jawloms Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Can this still be downloaded from anywhere so we can try it?
ass17 Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 Can this still be downloaded from anywhere so we can try it? Yes of course, there will be a trial version due out in August, but the computer must be connected to the internet for trial checks to be completed and therefore allowing the software to run. Stay tuned to the website for more details… 1

Rob_D Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 The payment page on the website doesn't mention the lifetime subscription option. How would we go about getting the lifetime license? (or isn't that an option anymore?)
ass17 Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 The payment page on the website doesn't mention the lifetime subscription option. How would we go about getting the lifetime license? (or isn't that an option anymore?) Hi, It doesn’t anymore because I have fulfilled all 100 first come first served schools. Paid, PO or Emailed. So now the only option as of today is to buy the 1-year or wait a few weeks and I will be releasing a 3-year license. I was due to make an announcement tomorrow but you beat me to it with the question. 1
mavhc Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Congrats on making £130k, in only 1 week (plus 7 years of work)
ass17 Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 Congrats on making £130k, in only 1 week (plus 7 years of work) Not quite because most are MATs with heavy discounts. And some emails might not turn into sales but it’s heading in the right direction :-) 1
mullet_man Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 (edited) Having spent many years on this project, eight years to be exact, it has now come to the point where I need to secure the long term future for the project. This entails buying into third party add-ons and licensing. I’ve spent many a time replying to emails with one hour of receiving them but I cannot do it all on my own. I have therefore decided ExamWritePad will become a paid-for service, as of 1st August 2023, allowing me to invest in staffing, future support for other operating systems, more addons etc… Of course, the question will be asked, what happens with current versions of EWP? Well, because they are free and don't expire, I can't force you pay, but I would like to think that education establishments would support ExamWritePad by making it their duty to purchase and receive future updates and technical support. If you decided to stay with your current free version, please continue to do so, but there will be no technical support and no further updates. There will be a simple two-plan offering: 1 Year (Annual) = £249 (unlimited devices/users - 1-year software updates and email support) Perpetual lifetime license = £1299 (unlimited devices/users - Lifetime software updates* and email support*) *Updates and support for the life of the product, there is no minimum set period and ExamWritePad can cease trading at any given time - Not that it will anytime soon but it's just a little disclaimer we are legally obliged to say to cover ourselves Once you make the purchase, you will be given the very first new big feature, the ability to load and read aloud a PDF file directly within EWP and there are many more minor new additions and plenty of bug fixes making it the most comprehesive version to date. Please continue to support this project, you have all been wonderful in your continued support of EWP in various ways, through social platforms, forums, emails and the good old word of mouth. Best regards,Andy Am just looking into this but I can't see a way to purchase the perpetual lifetime license on your site? The purchase page seems to suggest 1 or 3 year? ass17 Posted July 17, 2023 Author Posted July 17, 2023 Am just looking into this but I can't see why to purchase the perpetual lifetime license on your site? The purchase page seems to suggest 1 or 3 year? Hi, This offer has now finished because we reached the limit of first 100 schools who emailed with intent or purchased. Hence why now it’s only 1-year or 3-year.
mullet_man Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Ah OK I must have missed the bit about emailing for intent, I'll go back to our exams officer and see what they want to do. Cheers. 1
kennysarmy Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Just looking in to this for our exam team. I've installed the trial version and done a test edit to the JSON file, but this won't save. I'm logged in as a Domain Admin. Also, is it possible to edit the JSON file and re-wrap back in to an MSI for deployment? Or is it a case of installing then replace the JSON file with our custom one?

Hi, You deploy the JSON config to best suit your network environment. With regards to saving it, even though you are domain admin, you with have to right click on the ConfigEditorGUI and “run as administrator” in order to save. 1
AmazingSalamander Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Hi! My upper management are rather conservative about getting new software if other schools don't have it. (Don't ask me why, it feels very Lemming-like, just a way to be Utterly Average.) Even though we trialled it and found it worked well. Would anyone be willing to PM me a contact number for their school to talk about how your setup works? Thanks for your time!
robintech Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 For the PDF reader, will there be an option to select text in the PDF to read it or start reading from that point? and are the voices restricted to Microsoft Hazel
ass17 Posted October 13, 2023 Author Posted October 13, 2023 For the PDF reader, will there be an option to select text in the PDF to read it or start reading from that point? and are the voices restricted to Microsoft Hazel Hi, The November release will allow text selection and playback, there will also be a tabbed PDF window to show two PDFs (question paper and supplementary paper). The voices are what are installed in your PC, not restricted, that might be a bug I need to sort out, easiest way to find out is what ever narrator has the PDF should have the same, I will check this out. 1

ass17 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Posted December 11, 2023 Thank you for your continued support and it give me great pleasure to release the best ever version of ExamWritePad (I’m bound to say that with every new release!) Remember to backup your ExamWritePadSettings.json file before applying any upgrade/install, then afterwards run the settings file in the ConFigEditorGUI app to allow it to add in any new config options. What’s New/Fixed? FIXED: EWP would sometimes be very slow to shut down or in some cases not at all. ADDED: The trial version now uses system proxy credentials and address/port if specified in Windows. NEW: Convert the trial version into a fully licensed version if a valid license key is detected. Updated: TextControl from v31 to v32 (NOTE: You must now also install the C++ redist 2015-2022) Updated: Syncfusion from v23.1.36 to v23.2.4 FIXED: ScreenFilter Option Window would not stay top-most and would hide behind the main window. ADDED: ScreenFilter message box on first run will tell you how to access the options panel. FIXED: When printing, the config option ‘PrintFontFamily’ would not apply the font name specified to all the text. NEW: A new config option was added called ‘PrintFontSettingsEnforced’ which will ignore the ‘PrintFontColour’, ‘PrintFontFamily’, ‘PrintFontSize’ and the page background colour in order to print your document as you see it like a normal word processor document. NEW: UserSettings can now be stored in the Windows Registry instead of the User Profile. FIXED: UserSettings never checked for blank values in order to skip them and use the main JSON config settings, therefore would result in undesired results. NOTE: To Set the correct values in the UserSettings file or registry key, please use the ConfigEditorGUI app and your ExamWritePadSettings.json file to find the values you wish to use within each UserSetting, making sure that when you have finished that you don’t save the ExamWritePadSettings.json config when exiting the ConfigEditorGUI. NEW: Config option to specify a default path to open PDF files from within the PDF Reader addon called ‘DefaultPDFReaderOpenPath’ ADDED: IF you do not wish to keep specifying a PDF file for the PDF Reader every time, what you can now do is add a wildcard to the ‘PDFReader_PreloadFile’ and ‘PDFReader_PreloadFile2’ so that it will always retrieve the first PDF it finds. the path must end with \* For example: C:\PDFsFolder* or \Server\PDFs* ADDED: The MSI installers now will try to install the Prerequisites automatically post-install. For a full list or features and fixes read our news post: https://examwritepad.com/v23-12-10-1200/ For previous version release notes, see the corresponding posts on the ExamWritePad website. 3
thimon Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 We've just installed the latest version of examwritepad, however it asks for an internet connection to launch. The account we use for exams doesn't have internet access, as required by exam boards. Is there a way around this? Thank you.

The account we use for exams doesn't have internet access, as required by exam boards. Is there a way around this? Thank you. Hi, This is a requirement of the trial version as stated on the website, if you PM me with your email address I can send over a 30 day license file to trial it in an offline state.
thimon Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 We have the full version. Is there a specific location the license file need to be in?
ass17 Posted January 6, 2024 Author Posted January 6, 2024 We have the full version. Is there a specific location the license file need to be in? Sorry for the late reply, and you have probably have figured it out but the license file can go either in the same folder os the ExamWritePad EXE or any folder outside as long as you have specified it in the ExamWritePadSettings.json config file using the option "LicenseFilePath." 1
