We have 1 user account that is used on multiple devices and the students save to a pen drive but we think we have a work around.

 

I believe if we use the option Disable_SplashScreen with Disable_Ribbon_Btn_PreviousHistory there is no way for the exams user to access the previous versions from the software.

 

Having only Disable_Ribbon_Btn_PreviousHistory set to 1 will not stop you being able to restore from the splats screen, therefore it a long standing issue I need to address for the next build.

New version released with the following below:

 

 

· FIXED: Spanish language character selection always reverted to Russian.

· ADDED: For users of BTEC exams, Learner Registration Number has been added to the Candidate Number label to make it clearer. But to support alpha numeric numbers for BTECs, please remember to turn on ‘AllowAlphaNumericCharacters’ and ‘AllowLongCandidateNumbers’ in your config.

· ADDED: Word count window will now display a word and character count for any selected/highlighted piece of text alongside the document word and character counts.

· FIXED: Document Word and Character counts were slightly inaccurate in some instances depending on certain whitespace used.

· FIXED: Disabling the Previous Versions/Restore button would still allow you to restore via the splashscreen on launch.

· FIXED: Upon launch of EWP, if the list of previous version backup files were created more than 15 minutes prior to launch, it would ignore the config option ‘PreviousVersionsRecoveryMinutesDisplay’ which defaults at 60 minutes. The 15-minute time frame was hard coded and should be set to ‘PreviousVersionsRecoveryMinutesDisplay’.

· CHANGED: The backup files created had a file extension of .ExamText, which if users decided to save the files and backups to the same location, would be available to the Previous Version History window or the file à Open window or bulk printing. These files need to be separated so the backup/recovery files are now saved with a file extension of .ExamTextBackup

· FIXED: ConfigEditorGUI when selecting an option to edit that uses the trackbar to slide a value, still allowed you to type in a value into the text box. The trackbar should control the textbox value and should not be controlled by the user typing into the textbox for stability reasons and removing the possibility or undesired results.

· ADDED: ConfigEditorGUI now allows you select each option using the up/down arrows keys, once clicked on an option to start with.

Does the MSI installation work via GPO? I can get it to silently install using PDQ Deploy, however putting it into a GPO doesn't work. Any help would be really appreciated! p.s. Loving the software!

Via GPO yes it should, but use the MSI with no Icons as most have done it.

 

If it doesn’t work, there should be an event log as to why on each client PC.

Hmm no luck. In Event Viewer there's an MsiInstaller source which begins and ends at exactly the same time, doesn't list the name of the software. Cannot find anything else relevant. Will keep plugging away. Thank you.

Can you install/run the MSI manually on a PC? And does it install ok?

Turns out it was missing MS Visual C ++ 2013. Have now got this installing via GPO, ExamWritePad then installs. Thank you.

Just a quick update folks, I've got two school currently testing out a new version that may finally solve issues when EWP may lockup when trying to save a file, autosave a file, auto backup a file, open a file, export a file.... If the connection to the network drive you point EWP to becomes unstable or loses connection.

 

A major overhaul of the ‘Default Paths’ for saving, exporting, opening, backups, where in all instances of a dropped network connection or unstable USB drive set to any of these paths would result in a lock-up of the main EWP GUI for a good few minutes while waiting for the standard Windows API to timeout. To address this, each time a call is made to save, export, open or backup, each instance will now check if the path exists before proceeding for a maximum of 5 seconds, if after this timeout has passed and the result is path not found, EWP will automatically failover to the local users temp folder. Each subsequent call to a save, export, open or backup will try tore-establish a connection to the default path and revert back or continue in the temporary failover path.

 

What will happen, even though the timeout is 5 seconds, is the task will run in the background, so as not to interfere with the main GUI, therefore EWP will halt for a split second in real terms before switching over the file to a new temporary path.

 

This new verison will be available around the 1st March, ready in time for the summer exams!!

I wondered if there was the possibility of been able to select a page range to be printed, this has only come up as we had some English mocks and the students has written so much it exceeded our printing page limit of 10.

 

My first thought was try the usual workaround of printing pages 1-5 and then 6-11 but I couldn't find the option to do this on EWP.

 

I managed to sort it by copying the extra pages and pasting them onto a new EWP project but just thought i would ask if there was a way to do it.

Hello, is there a way to hide the status bar in ExamWritePad? Our laptops are not always connected to the network so the time displayed isn't accurate and with clocks in the room it would just be easier to hide it on screen. Thanks

Yes it is but no reason why can’t have it if people wish to use EWP as an everyday package. After all People are supposed to be using a word processor as their normal way of working according to the exam boards…

 

On the other hand, it’s not something in the road map because it’s most definitely a paid service add-in I’d have to buy into. So unless I have a serious amount of donations or a thriving kickstarter, it’s not going to happen.

 

The project itself, I believe is perfectly suited for its intended purpose now, and the next release with a major new feature to the printing side, yes you now get a print preview, I think it’s the best version yet.

What's New/Fixed?

FIXED: When the splash screen is disabled, if you click on the ‘Candidate Details’ button and then press Exit, the application would display a blank screen with no option other than to quit.

 

ADDED: A new config option called “AddComputerNameToBackupFilename”, so that if you wish to append the auto-backup filenames with the computer name, you can. The default is 0, no change to the filename, 1 is to append the filename at START with the computer name and 2 is to append at the END.

 

FIXED: Duplex printing was set to Horizontal and the printed pages would appear upside down. This has now been set to Vertical.

 

ADDED: You can now select which specific pages to print.

 

ADDED: A new config option called “AddDatTimeToFilename”, so that if you wish to append the filename with the date/time, you can. The default is 0, no change to the filename, and 1 is to append the filename at the END.

 

FIXED: If the Quick Formatting popup box was disabled, it would stop the font family and font size from updating on the main ribbon bar when moving the arrow keys through the text document.

 

FIXED: If a document had a specific background colour upon launch it would revert to white and also when printing.

 

FIXED: When printing a document that has different fonts used (family names and sizes), the page count on the screen would not match the actual printed document because the document text would have been converted using the ‘PrintFontSize’ and ‘PrintFontName’ config options. Therefore smaller font size would equal fewer pages to print if you PrintFontSize was less than that used in the document itself. A message box has now been added to inform the user that the printed document has a different page count than that of the on-screen document. This is to help the user not get confused when reviewing the printout. Off the back of this, an overhaul of the printing system has been done to reduce the codebase and allows EWP not to have to change the main document window for the purposes of printing and then reverting back the changes.

 

ADDED: Print Preview is now visible when printing

 

FIXED: ‘Suppress_Save_Messages’ within the ConfigEditor had an incorrect description and values associated with it.

 

FIXED: The function that attempts to save an ExamText document, in the event of an exception/error would lock out the document file making it impossible to save to.

 

ADDED: When on the Printing screen, the AutoSave, PowerStatus and AutoBackup timers are paused while there is nothing to do and will resume/reset when you click the close button on the Print screen.

 

ADDED: Config option to create a unique filename for Exporting to DOCX. ‘SaveASDOCX_NoOverwrite’ needs to be set to 1 if you wish to use it.

 

FIXED: Config option ‘SkipDeleteOldVersionsCheck’ was missing from the ConfigGUIEditor.

 

FIXED: Page size button, upon clicked, would display an erroneous message box not required.

 

FIXED: Page Margins sidebar didn’t retrieve existing margins on load or reset the red background colour in the event of an incorrect value.

 

FIXED: Page Margins, on opening an EWP file, were not passed to the margin label on the help tab or the margin sidebar.

 

UPDATED: Bass Audio and Spire.Doc libraries.

 

FIXED: When showing the Line Numbers, if you Zoom in and out of the document, below 80% and above 120%, the size of the line numbers is way out and doesn’t line up.

 

FIXED: When exporting to DOCX, the footer wasn’t spaced correctly, which made the signature line wrap underneath instead of being a single straight line.

 

FIXED: When trying to check for the latest version up on update, EWP would return a ‘Cannot contact server’ error. This was down to the version number checking again integers when they should be specified as long numbers. Therefore checking for updates within EWP would not work.

Just a quick one. I literally downloaded ExamWritePad on Monday this week and got it set up yesterday.

We used the .zip folder so the software sits on our network share.

To perform an "update" to this latest version, can I literally just download the latest .zip and overwrite the folder on our network share?

Will the config file that I created still work or will I have to create a new config file each time there is an update?

 

Thank you - great looking software, looking forward to using it for the first time when school resumes after Easter!
