Interesting move as it will cut a chunk of jobs. I can still see dishes needed in out lying areas where broadband is rubbish. Now if Freeview could do the same I would be a happy, happy man.

As a Freesat user this makes me very concerned since I cannot get Freeview and the dish I pull my signal from is BSkyB.

it will be a stick in the same way a chromecast/amazon fire thing is usb to power it hdmi to connect

A stick gives people a definite 'Sky' source on the telly.

 

It's also conveniently takes up a space that might otherwise go to an Amazon Fire stick or a Chromecast

I moved from Virgin to Sky recently and was chatting to the installer and he said their work was already changing with the new Q box as you only need to run to the dish from that box and he said they were running more ethernet around to support the other boxes with wireless poor in lots of properties.

No need, I pulled mine down a few years ago after they tried to rip me off. Best thing I ever did.

Fine if you can get a good enough data connection. But so many places can’t... and they’re not especially remote

My closest neighbours had Sky Q installed and it was awful, lots of buffering and low res, they went back to a dish in under 4 weeks. And yes, we live a few miles past the back of beyond with at best a 5mb broadband connection on a good day downhill

It's clearly not a one size fits all situation. Sky are looking to mop up the parts of the country where a dish on the side of the building is an issue. personally I would love to have the opportunity to have Sky sports in my home for a reasonable cost.

 

I would like to think this is Sky moving from the expensive sat in the sky way of doing things to streaming to reduce the overall cost of having Sky. Will it work out this way? hell no. But a guy can dream.

Not had any big problems with Sky Q, (had it about a year, and its always been the box wont wake from standby, a software update has fixed that for us)

 

With SkyQ they changed the LNB on the dish. Unless they changed this since we had it install it still kind of works the same as before. (Just the extra boxes work off the main Q box)
