Office365 Domain .sch.uk

Hi All,

 

We are now pretty much fully converted to Office365 for our Staff, however we have hit a little problem. The School owns and pays for through Zen internet a TLD with .sch.uk at the end, which is where the problem sits. At some point, we suspect, Rochdale Borough council have bulk registered all the ".rochdale.sch.uk" domains. We have no trace or proof of this, plus we are unable to get any info out of the council. This is mainly due to the fact like most councils, they don't have a in house IT anymore which deals with Schools. I have tried to speak to Microsoft and they are having none of it, which isn't a surprise, wouldn't want my domain hijacking due to some random person saying "Well it does belong to me". So I am reaching out to anyone who is currently still in Rochdale BC and if you have had the same problems as us, if you have been able to fix it, I would love to hear how you did it.

Your school owns its .sch.uk name

 

How about putting your domain into nominets lookup tool: https://www.nominet.uk/whois/

 

Anyway, with 365 domain verification you just have to add a DNS record, aren't you able to do this?

As above, the school are the legal owner, but the LA still have to process requests.

 

The alternative of course is to ditch the .sch.uk domain wherever possible and register something more generic/applicable to the school, which is fairly common with Academies.

Sorry guys, just read through my post. Its adding it to the Office 365 platform, it is saying its already registered to another tenant. Therefore I cannot add it to our actual tenanted domain!! Sorry about missing them details out!

When we moved to O365, we had the same problem. Someone had created an O365 tenant with our domain (I suspected an ICT teacher), but had not finished the process and had certainly not made any notes as to passwords etc.

In the end, we had to go through the process of "Forgot your Password?", which required a TXT record created on our .sch.uk DNS, so Microsoft could verify that the password reset had come from us.

Once we had access we were able to delete the tenant and carry on with the project using our new/proper one.

Owned it? Or was the Registrar? Not being pedantic but there is a big difference. Schools own their own .sch.uk address, RM wouldn't own such an address

Very true! I had no access to anything and contacted RM, which they helped me get at least access to the hosting.

That's not the issue. The domain is used on a Office 365 Tennant he can't get into.

Sorry, that wasn't clear in the first post and a I missed the supplementary detail. Nevertheless might be useful information for anyone struggling to take control over a .sch.uk domain under normal circumstances so I'll leave it there.
