Apple Macs

hello can anyone suggest any good suppliers for apple macs and specs.

i havent ever worked with any before.

we will be using them for a new media suite, wich will be used to edit video's, images, create movies, so any advice would be appreciated,

IMO find an apple reseller local. make sure they can do repairs.

Spec: you cant go wrong with an 20 iMac stick as much ram in as you can afford and your laughing.

European Electronique would be my recommendation. And the 20" imac with standard memory would be fine for most use.

I have always been told PC World Business is pretty cheap. If you go to the apple website and look up a local reseller thats always worth a shot to.

we have used Toucan before, they are Educational Mac Resellers, very comptitive quotes between them and misco but went with Misco Overall, but Toucan have helped to intergrate with our network.. Their Knowledge on Mac's is unbelieveable...

Isn't the whole dead kitten thing getting very boring and completely unfunny everyone knows you don't like Macs, get over it!

I can personally recommend these two companies having dealt with them within school and for my own personal purchases.

 

KRCS are a specialist Apple reseller and gave us some great prices, and also some insider knowledge (such as the release of new machines or upgrades specs) also were able to speed up the ordering process by getting are order through to apple as priority. Specifically talk to Glyn, very friendly and came into the school a couple of times to spend time with us and do a number of demo's with various staff - absolutely no pressure to buy.

 

Sound Control supplied us with 50 power macs with apple 20" screens with big discounts and other bits and pieces included in the price. Very helpful and support iur staff well during transition from PC to Mac. Dont get them to fit security cages if you purchase from the!!!! Get a specialist in!!

 

If i was you id go to KRCS first to get as much info from Glyn as possible, look out for the Apple pin badge on his tie (How cool!!), then go to other suppliers with your prices from KRCS. I dont think you'll be disappointed

Glyns is who we deal with here real nice chap always prepared to help. although sharkster is a bit out his way i am pretty sure he could forward you in a direction of a rep/local reseller further up north.

In my experience there is very little if anything in the way of insider knowledge for Apple resellers even the large ones. Apple are notoriously secretive when it comes to new product releases or even product refreshes in some instances. That includes Apple resellers not getting any information to go on until Apples themselves are ready to go public. Any 'insider' information in most cases is nothing more than what's already being speculated or tidbits that have been leaked on to internet and been picked up.

i think you'll find that'll be the Apple Xraid service parts kit, 'cos believe it or not they have 'Do Not Open' printed on them aswell.

 

where's mattx with a one-liner about apple products that have do not open written on the package ? He's missing a good opportunity here.

I got a quote from Oliis for £550 each which includes a Mac Mini, screen, keyboard, mouse and VAT, which strikes me as quite okay. Most of the fuss about having "high-spec" machines for video editing is superfluousness these days - pretty much any modern standard desktop/laptop machine is capable of handling video and sound just fine (maybe not your Eees, etc - hmm, anyone tried?). Only problem is disk space - I'm considering getting external harddrives for our pupils to store their video work on.

Torledo i appreciate that alot of Apple gossip seems to fly about on the internet but a number of years ago Glyn told us to hold fire on an order as all the power macs specs were changing and prices etc. I could not find any "gossip" floating around anywhere on the net about that, think i even posted the "gossip" on EduGeek and i was shot down in a ball of flames. Month later low and behold power macs specs change and we owed KRCS as pint or two. Specially as we didnt end up ordering from them.......

 

So i do completly agree with you, perhaps my "insider knowledge" comment was taken a little out of context.
