Very dark and an orange haze over the school at the minute, loads of students leaving classrooms to have a look and claim the world is ending!

 

2 girls wanted to leave school and go home as they were going to die in the hurricane if they stayed at school, funny thing is one lives 2 roads away so dont know how she thought she would fair any better at home! We are nowhere near where the hurricane is going to hit but they were just trying to waste time before they go home.

Locally, some herberts unearthed canisters of mustard gas from what's assume to be a Home Guard cache and it appears they fiddled with it and ended up in hospital. So that's the current joke around here (provided the kids aren't listening).

Just checked my CCTV and 2/3 of cameras went to night vision mode for about 40mins it was so dark!

Just cloud in my part of Kent but where the sun breaks through the cloud the sky is orange.

I'm on a forum where people who know about these things are talking about it and everyone is a bit baffled as to why they were found. Things like that in WWII were held in central stockpiles and never issued out to any units (let alone Home Guard who would have never been given such things).

They could have been issued to the Auxiliaries which were a wholly different thing all together - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auxiliary_Units

It could be they were part of an Auxiliary cache (of which there are still quite a few to be found out there by all accounts) and as the vast majority of those selected for these units are now dead, they are lying undisturbed and will only ever be found by accident.

I would like to apologies for the change in sky colour. I tasked one of my technicians with fixing the colour calibration on one of our printers. His solution was novel.

Poking around, the BBC article here: Lincolnshire Police clear 150 canisters in mustard gas search - BBC News thinks the local RAF did a less-than-stellar job at site cleanup.

 

Around Woodhall Spa there's lots of reinforced concrete underfoot from WW2 in the woods if you go down the bike/foot paths.

Just done some digging and Roughton Wood was the munitions area for RAF Woodall Spa which would explain it's presence.

Well, the winds have not really appeared here, so I think we have got off lucky

Slowly the skies lightened and by 2.30pm the sun was out and it was a beautiful afternoon. We do have some wind, but nothing that strong

Well Belfast area certainly got off lightly compared to what I initially expected!

 

Plenty of power cuts though but still time yet for more damage - the winds are still strong and persistent.

 

On the plus side - 2 days out of school due to nationwide blanket closures but I've spent the entire time "on response call" as it were to update the school website & social medias as required. Our call to shut didn't come through until very late Sunday evening.

 

The weather on Sunday evening was so weird though - a very strange eerie sense of calm before the storm.
