Is anyone still using roaming profiles ?

The UE-V (and App-V) clients are built into Windows 10 now so all you need is the Windows 10 ADK for the UE-V Template Generator (or Sequencer for App-V).

 

 

i have that must be an older version (progs and features says 10.1.10586.0)

edit found a version labelled 1703 on my pendrive

I have the same version. What OS are you using? Windows 10 1703?

 

If you right-click it in Programs & features and select Change you can install the UE-V template generator if it isn't installed already.

on the pc with wadk on server 2012r2 im just updating it now as why not its been a quiet morning and i tried installing the 1703 version on a n other server and it showed uev (diddnt actually install just ran and cancelled out) again not that im going to run it live im going to do some vm testing but uev looks like being useful and certainly worth investigating

 

it wasnt listed under change either

hmmm updated same install files as i tested with and the options not there i suspect because i tested on server 2016 hmm oh well to vms i go i can fire up a 2016 vm on my laptop at some point

Using 1607 (as LTSB 2016) with UE-V and local profiles all the way here after a tumultuous start to Windows 10 with 1511 and roaming profiles (about which I still have nightmares!) And as mentioned earlier in the thread, SSD's everywhere. The difference they make, even on old Intel Dual Core 5300's on a G31 chipset is amazing. Having fitted them everywhere means we've easily squeezed another 2 to 3 years life out of some desktops.

ok so ive now got a server 2016 vm and 2 win 10 1703 vms. Ive deployed uev settings to one of the vms (the other is going to be used to test transfer but ive not got there yet). i have gpo set up like

but the service refuses to start and i get nothing in the folder i specified. It looks like i need templates but im unsure how to get them the docs say it has templates for word etc in it but im stuck

still using roaming profiles and never had any issues really?

 

got a mix of 7/8/10 - SSD's in most computers now

We just run folder redirection rather than roaming profiles. Nothing is set in the profiles tab in AD.

Running Windows 10 1703 and Server 2016 and had no issues

What's your initial login like? Also, are any of your users using Outlook? If so, how are your settings migrating across PCs?

Is there some sort of user guide / definitive guide in how to get this solution setup in the best possible way? Surely the users would need some sort of profile to get onto the machine in the first place using this solution, as with any other solution - so isn't it just going to keep going thr first time setups for each user everytime they go to logon?

 

I'm currently using Mandatory Profiles with Windows 10 1602 and having stripped out all the rubbish that get bloated within the profile when first created, I don't seem to have come across any problems using this solution, logon times seem preety fast.

 

I know it would probably make more sense to me if I was actually using this UE-V solution, rather than reading up about what it UE-V can do and getting my head around what's actually needed in the setup - but a "go to" guide would be helpful?

Still do, still will. quicker logging on with a roaming profile (after initial login) than waiting for a local profile to be created each time.
