Best Version for Education

Hi all,

 

Whats your preferred version of Windows 10 for your schools?

 

Have started my build on LTSB but started looking at plain Enterprise, then Education...

 

Just be interesting to see your choices!

Hmm, sounds interesting, any idea if it contains the same raft of Apps that are rolled into Enterprise?

Education are not entitled to Enterprise but are for Enterprise LTSB. We use Enterprise LTSB so bring stability. We found these big updates every 9 months or so used to break things.

Enterprise/Education are almost identical. It's only lately there are now some differences, as Arthur highlighted some weeks ago.

 

Microsoft have started to release Delta Updates, so as long as you perform upgrades in order - May > June > July, then it'll work. If you installed May and then July, you'd need the full version of the installer for that month.

Yep I tried Education edition at first and it had a ridiculous amount of unsuitable apps on it for students.

 

There are complicated ways of removing them with powershell, but it just wasn't worth the effort. LTSB works well and is stable for our student machines.

Education as only the Current Branch edition will get the funky new OneDrive functionality that's going to be a huge win that makes a Win10 migration worthwhile. That is provided we don't move to Google before then as File Stream works on everything

The obvious answer is XP!

 

We started with Education and are slowing moving to LTSB. We haven't had any real problems, although users still question why the interface is such rubbish, even though we upgraded 2 years ago. I think their main criticism is actually to do with Office 2013 and it's terrible file navigation.

1703 Education x64. I have spent a lot of time honing it - it's not perfect by a long shot but it will do. I don't fancy rolling out the next big update so soon after building this one though!

Windows 10 here. I originally built a Win 10 Enterprise image, sorted it all out, deployed it but when I came to put the key in realized that our Microsoft EES agreement didn't come with the Enterprise key - it said to ring them.

 

I put the Education version key in and it accepted it and upgrade/downgraded/did something to it and it "became" the education version.

LTSB 2016 x64 here all the way. None of the unnecessary extraneous guff that comes with Ent or Edu.

In a school, Education. Look at the side by side comparison with Enterprise and their is hardly any difference. LTSB if you are going to rebuild every couple of years.

So, there used to be info from MS that said that schools were not eligible for Enterprise, but this changed and the info put of by MS said that schools *could* use Enterprise. I think @Arthur posted the details.

According to the latest Microsoft Product Terms document (Direct Link), schools can use the Enterprise edition if they have Software Assurance for Windows 10 Education.

 

Is it just me, or does it look like we're not allowed to use the Enterprise LTSB edition with EES/OVS-ES?

 

@FN-GM. Are you licensed for Windows 10 Enterprise/Education E3/E5? See 4.9.1 below.

Way back in October 2015 we could use Education and Enterprise LTSB editions, but not Windows 10 Enterprise Current Branch for Business.

Then in February 2016 we could use Education, Enterprise or Enterprise LTSB.

Now we can only use Windows 10 Enterprise, Education or Pro Education. Enterprise LTSB isn't an option unless you are licensed for the Windows 10 Education/Enterprise E3 or E5.

I think I am going to double-check with my Microsoft reseller tomorrow. This is getting far too confusing!

Sometimes I wonder if the resellers actually know any more than we do!

 

So far in discussions with mine, I've had the following quoted:

"I believe you don’t get access to Windows 10 Enterprise as they now give you Windows 10 Education. This has been designed with the features from Enterprise for use in education environments."

 

"You will always have SA on your agreement, as this is a core benefit of the OVS-ES program."

 

So, according to the chart, it looks like those of us with an OVS-ES agreement can only get Education (upgarade) or am I reading that wrong...?

 

But as according to the paragraph 4.9.2 - it looks like those with SA benefits can use Enterprise, Pro or Pro Education (whatever that is) - and according to my reseller, SA is a core benefit of OVE-ES...

 

How do you find out if you are E3/E5?

 

I have personally gone on the presumption that if it is listed in the 'Relationship Summary' page on the MVLSC, then I'm good to go with whatever it shows. I'm aware that we actually have access to a lot more license keys than we have an agreement for, but those on the relationship summary page are available to use.

Just checked our OVS-ES agreement.

 

So... we are E3 Windows 10 Education with SA so... that means... actually I don't know what that means lol!
