Enterprise on EES?

Hi All,

 

Can someone please clarify for me that Enterprise either is, or isn't available on the OVS-ES license option.

 

I see a lot of posts whereby people are deciding which to use (I'm aware of Enterprise LTSB, but don't think it's that they are talking about) and others saying they aren't licensed for it anyway...

I remember Win 7 Enterprise key being available in SA benefits, but Win 10 Enterprise isn't there.

 

On my MVLSC agreement it says to call them for the serial...

You have to call for keys to be added to your account now. Though they want schools to use Education, not Enterprise. Edited July 3, 2017 by localzuk

From previous discussions on here I have read that Enterprise is allow, though, I thought I would use Education Edition instead as I can't see anything different with Education and Enterprise and it goes to mind that anything Educationish that Microsoft may make in the future will be going on an Education build.

 

IIRC, the MAK for Windows 10 supplied works with Education and Enterprise. Though if you want to use KMS instead, then you would need to call up for this type of key to become availabled.

This is not for general use throughout the school, purely for my machine.

 

I set it up as a test originally, just to see if I could get everything working. After all that work, (installing software, updates, testing a virtual instance of Win 7 etc.) I got fed up of the nag and also realised there was no way to set a lot of things such as personalisation. I went to activate it and couldn't see the key anywhere, then reading through some of the aformentioned threads it all got a bit confusing...

Why might we want Enterprise? For Staff the integration of Cortana and the organization's Microsoft Graph will be an amazing shift in capabilities for the Microsoft Platform.

Windows 10 Education is missing Cortana.

 

If you want to see Graph in action now, have a look at Delve. I'm finding that I am using Delve quite a lot as I move teams I work with onto Office365. HR are also very happy as it surfaces information they have to manage, in a way that now gives them an excuse to use AD as the single point of truth for data not currently manageable within SIMS.

 

Of course, the reality come 'Fall' might not live up to the promise. Delve itself hasn't got much love recently, but Graph featured large at Build this year.

Well, I can now confirm that 'works' with either edition is not strictly true....

 

Entering the 'Education' key resulted in a "Please wait while we upgrade your version of Windows" message and after a reboot I have an 'Education' version!

 

 

Now, I remember seeing a discussion in one of many Education vs. Enterprise threads where it was mentioned that it is possible to go from one to the other as it is seen as an upgrade, but not the other way round....

Now after ringing Microsoft and being passed halfway around a continent that shall remain nameless, I got put through to a Spanish speaking voice message!

 

My Spanish not being up to scratch (beyond "dos cervezas por favor"), I hung up and tried again.

 

Same guy put me through to an English speaking recorded message and after navigating to the correct department, I got "the requested page could not be found, goodbye".... Guess that's what I get for calling toll free!

Just answering my own question (and for those that find this thread).

 

Just had a conversation with a guy at Microsoft...

 

He said, "no school or university should be licensed for Enterprise - only LTSB and Education".
