gh5000 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Anyone having problems with youtube on LGfL? Have severe restricted on and has been fine for ages. But now unrestricted videos (that you would see when not logged in) play fine. Restricted videos do not when logged in. The video comes up as being unavailable but the sound happily plays in the background. Happening at two of our LGfL schools.
gh5000 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 Video works fine on a mobile (using the dns m.youtube.com) but same video has a problem on http://www.youtube.com
thebatman Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 We are having the same issue here. I have found that if you right click on the link then select open in new tab / open in new window it works. 1
gh5000 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 @thebatman are you with LGfL. Have you raised a ticket?
alexsanger Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Just testing this and found if you go to a video that doesn't play, highlight the URL in the address bar and hit return it reloads successfully.
thebatman Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 We are with LGfL, no we haven't raised a ticket as non of the teaching staff have complaind yet.
fiza Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 We are having the same issue as are others in this thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/185497-gafe-anyone-elses-youtube-been-bit-janky-today-2.html#post1591488
fiza Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 We are with LGfL, no we haven't raised a ticket as non of the teaching staff have complaind yet. I raised a ticket with LGfL but they said their systems are fine raise it with Google Support. I created a thread over on Youtube Forum https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/youtube/mE2jy1biQGg;context-place=forum/youtube
GuyJD Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 it's working fine for me but I'm on the moderate restriction dns
fiza Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 it's working fine for me but I'm on the moderate restriction dns So are we but its not working for us.
alexsanger Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I ended up on chat with G Suite support with no real outcome. Have asked if LGfL can escalate to anyone at Google for us. I'll see what they come back with.
alexsanger Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 ...and that's a no. "Afraid we have no contacts within Google/YouTube to raise this with". I'll see if I can get it escalated by someone in G Suite support unless anyone else has any bright ideas.
Zoom7000 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I managed to get YouTube working properly under my LGfL connection by adding Conditional Forwarders on my DNS server. (This was advised by Atomwide) The URLs you need forwarders for are: googleapis.com youtube.com youtube-nocookie.com Just add Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) as the master servers for those 3 URLs. YouTube should then start behaving again.

psydii Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Can you post GAFE ticket refs here? Someone at YouTube might want to see them.
fiza Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 More and more people having the same issue. Another thread on the Youtube forums. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/youtube/ksZQ0XhZMxM;context-place=forum/youtube
BillyAB Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 I'm also having the same problem where restricted videos show as unavailable but the audio quite happily plays in the background. And I've lost all ability to approve videos.
psydii Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 I've been told that someone at YouTube is looking into this.
BillyAB Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 I've been told that someone at YouTube is looking into this. Lets hope so, I didn't have much when I spoke to Google, although I'm not in LGfL and are using Schools Broadband so its not just and issue with your internet connection.
fiza Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 I've been told that someone at YouTube is looking into this. G Suite support have washed their hands of it and said raise it on the Youtube Help Forums and if enough people do that then someone from Youtube will take notice. Hopefully if you have heard someone is looking at it then something should happen soon.
SwedishChef Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 (edited) Having the same problem, phoned support I have a ticket number, and I have emailed our Google Account Manager....hopefully they can help. We did have this issue with a staff member, Clearing browsing data seemed to resolve it. Edited July 4, 2017 by SwedishChef
BillyAB Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 This has now resolved itself for me, hopefully its the same for everyone else.
gh5000 Posted July 10, 2017 Author Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) This has now resolved itself for me, hopefully its the same for everyone else. Same here. Two weeks to sort though! Edited July 10, 2017 by gh5000
fiza Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Same here. Two weeks to sort though! It took a while for G Suite Support to admit it was an issue their end rather than Youtube Support. The issue was resolved on Friday.
psydii Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 This has now resolved itself for me, Alphabet's machine learning is good, but not that good. There were definitely(*) people involved in fixing this. (*) probably
