Cash + Carry

Looking at cash and Carry's.

 

Anyone apart of one? Was looking at Costco as you can join for working in education.

 

What wanted other people's ideas towards them.

We were members of Makro a few years ago. Our membership has lapsed now because we found that we weren't going often enough to justify keeping it going.

 

Our nearest is in Enfield, and we are in Hertfordshire.

Been a member of Costco for quite a while now. It's not massively cheaper than supermarkets for branded stuff (and you have to buy in bulk) but their own brand stuff (Kirkland Signature) is always really good quality.

 

No quibble returns policy applies to everything; 3yr time limit for electronics but lifetime for everything else I think.

 

They also have an opticians, do car tyres and some warehouses sell fuel at a few pence below the lowest priced station in the area (members only of course!)

Try it for a year if there is one nearby. You may save money, or you may end up buying more things at a saving so end up even if not spending more!!!

 

At Costco we often buy kitchen towel and toilet rolls and either split them with someone or stash them away. If you have a freezer than there are lots of things that can be kept and got out singley, croissants, Danish pastries etc. Their meat is very good as well, we'll worth freezing.

 

Petrol is much cheaper if you can time it right and my Dad swears by their tires.

 

The issue is making enough of a saving to justify the membership.

I use Makro but only for certain things as its sometimes cheaper in the likes of Tesco. Wash powder, kitchen towel, toilet rolls, fabric softner work out a bit cheaper so I tend to get that in bulk a few times a year.

I find our cash and carry is more expensive on fresh food. Everything else is a lot cheaper.

Your right on that one, only some drinks in bulk are cheaper there (well at Makro at least).

My Wife has a Makro card through her Brownie unit, and other than stuff for the Brownies we only really buy Toilet roll, centrefeed rolls for the kitchen and the garage and 5l bottles of washing up liquid. We sometimes buy meat in there if we have a big family dinner coming up.

I signed up to Costco and make at least 2 trips a year to the nearest one for some things. Sometimes it's worth the 90 min trip just for the trays of scones or danish pastries.

My family have been Costco members for years, and we go once a month. You can get all sorts there, but as others have said, you can get big packs of toilet roll, kitchen roll, dishwasher stuff, laundry stuff, etc. which makes it well worth it! The food is always very good quality. They sell branded clothes at a cheaper price, too. Also loads of shiny electrical goods, and all the cakes are about as big as your face and come in packs of 12... I could go on!
