Internet cost Plusnet?

Has anyone managed to get Plusnet cost down or I am better going to BT that has an offer for 52mbit or is BT just not worth it? 52mbit is about the speed I sync at. There seems to be no real competition in the Broadband only market I don't want TV!

Customer service is far better with PlusNet, yes they are both BT but PlusNet are in a different league I feel. Used them at my Dad's and when FTTC becomes available I will be looking to ditch Virgin to move to them.

I’ve used them for several years and the customer service has always been great. Also they have a firewall which is somewhat configurable from there website and also static IP addresses are available upon request

On the contrary. I've had a terrible experience with them. They repeatedly failed to set up my DD correctly, each time stopping my service without warning when they failed to take any money.

We are with plusnet. Don't think they are as good as "listening" as they used to be. ...but I've not seen that others are any better.

I'm incredibly surprised Plusnet survived that business with ACS Law and everyone didn't vote with their feet after that.

I was with PlusNet for years and never had a single problem. I've literally just come away from them though as I no longer use my static IP, and QuidCo and TopCashBack are both offering £125 if you switch to EE.

Im with BT (infinity unlimited), have been since we moved in and never had an issue with connection and not had to call them.

I've found that they are becoming worse in the last few years. The support is not as good.

I'm with BT and after a lot of complaining as OpenReach took forever to come out and install the line in my new build property we now get their 52mbps broadband for £9.12 a month (This includes line rental) but touch wood since they installed it I've never had to call them it's always just worked

I've been with PlusNet nearly 20 years. Standards did drop but I think they've improved again. Certainly miles better than the owners BT. I've always found them to be open and up front, something market forces have put pressure on. I'm still on copper as I don't need any more yet, and I don't pay much above line rental.

I'm with NowTV, get a NowTV box, 38Mbps internet and line rental for £29.99 a month with no contract.

I used to be with plusnet. Great customer service, but very poor T&C's. Had to pay £50ish to leave despite the contract being up.

I'm with BT on Infinity Unlimited 2, and since we switched to Infinity a couple of years ago we've never had a major problem. Although we do pay a staggering amount for our phone line and internet each month (over £50), when I went shopping around I couldn't find a deal that was particularly cheaper than what we're on now for the same speed (76Mbps down, 16Mbps up, unlimited usage, no fair usage policy).

 

Ok some providers did have deals so that it would be cheaper for the first year, then the same price as we're paying now after that. Personally I don't believe that changing from the reliable service we have now is worth saving £120 over the year considering the fact we may lose our phone number, and losing connection while the switch over happens, and having to reconfigure my router and modem... etc. etc.

I did phone up plusnet for a better deal but they would only take it down to £34 form £38.50. I have a billion router so I know that my phone line now only syncs at 51mbps this was 65 when I was the only customer on the Green box for me the 52mbit server is the right size. The Billion has been amazingly stable and made the connection so much better.

We literally just switched to Plusnet from BT and all went fine except I had to ring them Friday to activate our broadband as for some reason they hadn't done it - was basically instant though.

 

One thing to watch out for though is the upload speed is capped at 2mbps, I was on around 6 before with BT. I would have preferred more but our bill has gone down from £65 to £30 and then £35 in 12 months so we really couldn't say no.

 

Also a big plus to them as for £5 one off fee you get a static IP which is useful for remoting into your home network.

Capped at 2mb/s ??? You have a business rather than residential service? This is fttc not adsl? We have plus net and get a steady 20mb/s upload on any of the speed tests and between 76 and 80mb/s down ...but rarely use anything above 5 mb/s up. Never had any experience of a cap for speed or useage quota.

Yes capped at 2mbps for residential broadband. The reason you get 20 is because you are on the 76mbps package and that is 20 the 38mbps is capped at 2. Plusnet do not even let you take the 76 package out if your speed can't get over 40 so yes capped at 2!

My Billion 8800nl has dropped the sync to 39mbps should I swap to using the BT smart hub? The Billion had been syncing at 51mbps but has slowed down since changing isp.

Wow that's so shockingly bad! A mobile phone backing up will basically kill your internet speed.

Stuff like that is why I dumped them when I was on adsl years ago, they were major into messing with traffic as well back then, I see things still haven't changed much.
