What happens in File stream if you set users download location as the G drive and then download something from Google drive ?

:D if the file exists I guess it would version the change if there was one, then again that may explain the outages before ;)

So, have they implemented SSO/SAML authentication yet? Can't be having users prompted for their credentials again after they're logged in.

Also, each Team Drive has a hard limit of around 140,000 objects (files+folders). Google's answer to this? Create additional Team Drives.

We're currently trialling this with selected users and they seem to require Modify access to somewhere on the C drive when trying to save into Team Drives (their own drive works fine) as they get told they don't have the required privileges to do so (Error 0x80070522). Any ideas? I don't want to give modify access to the whole of the C drive if I can help it. There's an associated folder in C:\users\%username%\appdata\local\google\drivefs but by default it seems users have inherited full control of that anyway.

No option to download File Stream. Do you think it will be only US that get it today or will the UK also get it?

I should imagine we will have to wait until its a working day in the US.

Known issues

You can't currently duplicate Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

If you have edit access for a Team Drive (or any files shared within a Team Drive), you can currently only view these files in Drive File Stream. To edit the files, you must access them in Drive on the web.

Is it bad that they need to click one button "Allow", or bad that if you tell them to do that they'll do it for any popup?

It is bad they have to do it in the first place. We should be able to approve it for everyone. People will ignore it etc. I can see it being an issue for primary school children in particular.

So am I right in thinking that most of the issues are in regards to how File stream works with Team Drive rather than how it works with My Drive?

for example

If you have edit access for a Team Drive (or any files shared within a Team Drive), you can currently only view these files in Drive File Stream. To edit the files, you must access them in Drive on the web.

Is this also an issue with My drive or only Team Drive?

Has anyone successfully managed to deploy this via SCCM? The documentation says to use --Silent switch but I'm wondering if /silent would work too (got a test deployment using/switch and just waiting to see if it's successful or not).

For me this was just an issue for Team Drives. We've got less than 10 people trialling this here so we've giving them full access to the Team Drive as a temporary fix.

You sign into file stream for it to work... But then when you open a Google Doc, sheets etc you're not signed in on the browser.

Does anyone know how to make it not prompt for the username and to use SAML please?

Also how do you specify a drive letter please?

Even if you login, 30 mins later you're logged out again.

I installed it using the --silent switch through SCCM. Worked fine.

Is it File Stream or Google that you're being signed out of? I didn't have to sign in or authorise File Stream this morning - was also interested to see that the mapped drives took precedence over File Stream when I logged back in this morning (we use G for our main Staff Share) - when I installed File Stream yesterday, the drives were already mapped. Don't know if this would be the same if you use GPP to map drives - we still use a script.

I use Google Suite enough to be logged in before I try to open anything from Explorer - but I don't remember ever being logged out during the day, so if you're being logged out after 30 minutes I suspect there's a setting for log-out times somewhere

File stream is still signed in but Google Docs isn't. IF you open docs from other sources such as links etc it works fine, its just opening them from stream. We use SAML so it might be something to do with that.

I am just testing it at the moment and haven't put it into the wild yet.

Had anyone had issues getting it to work with their filtering? It doesn't seem to sign in when I go via Smoothwall but nothing is appearing as blocked.

Must say I am really pleased with Google File Stream so far. I have a few teachers testing it at 3 schools and all have given me very positive feedback. Going to do a mass deploy next week and see how that all goes.

has anyone actually got the --silent flag to function on the installer? it just dies for me if i use the --silent argument.

Anyone had any luck with this. I have the launch one and it won't install silently :(.

Is there anyway to specify what drive letter it uses? It keeps nicking my sims drive letter and then stopping Sims working. Also take it no one has managed to get it to store the credentials settings in the user account so it prevents users having to log in again each time they use a different computer?

...and this too?
