All I did was look for the first email from Google saying your accepted - click this link for mac, click for windows. This gets you the latest version which worked on my windows 10 surface - where it didn't before.

 

Basically redownload and see if the update works for you.

We’re excited to announce that on September 26th Google Drive File Stream will be available to all G Suite Enterprise, Business, Education, Basic and Non-Profit customers. As an EAP participant, Drive File Stream will continue to work for your organization with no changes. If needed, you canupdate your settingsin the Admin console.

Starting today, you’ll see settings in the Admin console for Drive File Stream (located at Apps > G Suite > Drive and Docs > Data Access). Note—these settings won’t go into effect for your users until Tuesday 26th September, when Drive File Stream becomes generally available.

 

A few important things to note:

 

  • In October, Drive for Mac/PC users may start seeing messages in the product notifying them that Drive for Mac/PC is going away.
  • If a user is running both Drive File Stream and Backup and Sync on the same machine, they’ll be prompted to stop syncing My Drive with Backup and Sync in order to save disk space.
  • Team Drive editors won’t be able to edit their Team Drive files when they’re opened in Drive File Stream; they’ll only be able to view them. To edit these files, they’ll need to open them in Drive on the web.

It might be because I haven't used it, but doesn't this exception significantly reduce Team Drive's usefulness if we're looking for a replacement for network shares?

Potentially. I think Google sees Drive File Stream more as a way for people to access large amounts of data without syncing than a replacement for the network shares where users are going to constantly modify files.

 

In the blog post where they originally announced GDFS they mention the word 'access' a lot.

Now it finally supports secure boot I am giving it a try. I have to say its not the fastest so far, getting about 4MB/s (Megabytes) when the web interface uploads gets 20MB/s but they did have issues yesterday.

I have not used File Stream either, but wondered how you thought it might be able to replace network shares as I have not read that it can on any File Stream info docs.

I can see it replacing home areas. But not shared until they improve Team Drive.

I was thinking of Team Drive replacing network shares (not like for like, but as part of a suite of products which might replace MS based infrastructure), so it's the fact that the briefing on File Stream suggests poor integration with that product that's surprising in a disappointing way....

has anyone actually got the --silent flag to function on the installer? it just dies for me if i use the --silent argument.

 

unless that only comes into play at launch, was just looking to test deployment on a few pc's

Is there anyway to specify what drive letter it uses? It keeps nicking my sims drive letter and then stopping Sims working. Also take it no one has managed to get it to store the credentials settings in the user account so it prevents users having to log in again each time they use a different computer?

Has anyone had an issue in using File stream on multiple networks. I have a teacher who is having issues when her laptop is moved between networks, eg School to Home, or Home to School. It will work fine when the laptop is first turned on, but when she puts the laptop to sleep, takes it home and then tries to use it, it hangs trying to open documents, files, etc. Like wise if she restarts her laptop at home it appears to work fine, then stops when she comes back to school the next day.

 

I haven't seen the laptop in person yet, only had phone calls about it. She is coming to see me about it today. It could very well be that her laptop has other issues she isn't telling me, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has come across a similar issue while I wait.

Not yet I think. I saw multiple people requesting it on the testing forums though.

Probably easier to change your SIMS drive letter....

I would have thought resuming a laptop from sleep mode while at a different network would cause other problems, as I believe computers request network info during boot up.

What happens in File stream if you set users download location as the G drive and then download something from Google drive ?
