Teacher Tablets

Hi guys,

 

Been asked by one of my larger primary schools to look into getting all the class teachers a tablet of some kind.

 

My first thought was to get them iPads, but they want me to look into 'other' possibilities too.

 

I just wondered what else is out there that is tough, fast, easy to use and has a camera.

I've only ever used iPads as a mobile device. How would you stop it from downloading/uploading profiles all the time? Wouldn't it just be like a desktop or laptop, and do it on startup/logon/logoff?

What sort of budget do they have in mind? I've been loathe to buy anything with 2GB of RAM since the Windows tablet really took off again with Windows 8 - it's just not enough if they need to do more than browse the internet. We bought some HP Pavilions with 4GB of RAM (Bay Trail) as well as some Surface 2s and a Surface 4. The less said about the Surface 3 the better IME. Prices ranged from £200 to £800+ each.

Budget of £400-£500 per unit for 14 teachers. TA's may get them too if the rollout is a success.

 

I agree about the RAM. I don't buy anything with less than 4GB (preferably 8GB) RAM these days.

Well, you can get Linx models with 4GB of RAM Linx 10V64 Tablet with Keyboard - Intel Atom x5-Z8300 - 10" - 4GB RAM - 64GB eMMC - Windows 10 (LINX10V64/BUN) - www.misco.co.uk not sure about such a small amount of (eMMC) storage though. Cheap machine though. You're looking at Miix (an unknown to me), Surface 3, some cheaper Lenovo and HP models, and also this:

Honestly, spec wise (and in this format with the better keyboard) this looks like a cracking machine to me at the money (I'm hoping your budget of £500 was +VAT).
