Which 7in tablet?

I have had a look around and most threads on this are quite old so...

The sports teacher is looking for a robust 7in tablet her health ambassadors can carry around, and using the change for life apps can scan food packets etc. It also needs a good camera.

I really don't think we need an iPad, but what are the current alternatives?

Ours haven't broken any of them in the last year (independent school though so our kids might be considered better behaved - i have no reference for that though)

We have a set of 12 without cases so I thought with a case that might be enough for you.

The cameras aren't up to phone levels of quality but the battery life is excellent and it seems a decent enough camera for a tablet but it doesn't have a flash so it needs another source of illumination which might mean it's not suitable for you

ours are mostly used for app creation/testing rather than photographing/videoing things but the fact none have even got a crack after a year of uncased use and they are very responsive I thought it might be worth you adding them to your list of tablets to compare reviews of

I've been using ZenPad 7" and they are awesome, the Kids Mode they bring is perfect for school but now they need new ones just for taking pictures, so I guess between Lenovo and Fire I'll go for Lenovo. Why? We all know how PITA could be staff, right now they are yelling for a device just for taking pictures because they shouldn't be using their own devices for that and I agree on that but we have severals cameras (point and shoot) that could do the job flawless; Problem? they don't want to plug the camera on their laptops, search the picture and upload it on twitter, they want me to do that of course and I refuse. I am just a three days a week SysAdmin and I cannot waste my time in that. So, they want a device with Wi-Fi connectivity and Twitter account access. As I said this is all they want right now but we all know that after a few weeks they will be asking if they could use the app they have in their phones and this is why I think pure Android OS will be better. Amazon AppStore won't have the same amount of apps that Play Store has, so I do not want to be asked about:

HeadTeacher: Why cannot we use this app?

Me: oh, hum... well, because it is not available on Amazon AppStore.

HeadTeacher: Why in the hell did you decided to buy a Kindle then?

I have been looking at the Kindle Fire 7" for EYFS using the Tapestry app.

 

Doesn't having FireOS in place of regular Android limit their usability? I was going to buy one myself until I realised it comes with Amazon's own customised OS. Can you still manage them using Google Apps device management and are most of the Google App store apps available on the Amazon Store?

 

I haven't used one myself so wondered what the main differences were other than the lack of Google Play Store access.

I have been looking at the Kindle Fire 7" for EYFS using the Tapestry app.

 

My son's nursery uses tapestry and they use galaxy tab 3 7" but they are not impressed as they bought 5 and in 18 months been through 3 under warranty - apparently just failed dead, and they've had to pay to have 4 charging ports and 2 screens replaced.

 

It would also appear that I might well be about to pick them up as an informal customer!

My school just want them to run Tapesrty so having a huge choice of apps is not an issue.

 

If I was going to put a tablet in a class room I would go for iPads if not Andriod.

 

Just need to find if they can be forced to run in single app mode.
