My current OC 4790k i didn't do, there is an OC button on my mobo i pressed and it did it for me! My new Mobo that is coming doesnt have this feature :/ Better start reading up on it
PotNoodleTech Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 It should be easy, to start off with, just increase the clock multiplier a bit at a time and test stability each time. Once it becomes a bit unstable, back it off a notch.

My new Mobo that is coming doesnt have this feature :/ Better start reading up on it Get Prime95 and run that for 15 minutes or so to get your base temperature. Prime95 is MUCH more intense than any games but its a good way to do a burn in and see the top temperature you will hit before overclocking.

If not, you could order another Ryzen CPU with a bundled Wraith Max cooler. AMD readies Ryzen 7 1800X and 1700X packages with Wraith Max coolers AMD launched the retail versions of its flagship Ryzen 7 1800X and second-best Ryzen 7 1700X processors in WOF (without fan-heatsink) boxed packages, similar to how Intel sells unlocked "K" and "X" series processors, such as the Core i5-7600K and Core i7-7700K. The company is giving final touches to newer packages of the two chips that include a stock cooling solution, probably addressing markets in which socket AM4-compatible aftermarket cooling solutions aren't easily available. These packages will include AMD's largest Wraith-series cooler, the Wraith Max.

I think I'll wait!

A post on Reddit teases that the new CPUs will include 64 PCIe lanes, and up to 180W TDP with the 16C/32T version. AMD will reportedly deploy ThreadRipper onto a new LGA SP3 socket, with up to 32MB of L3 cache, and up to 4GHz boost on certain ThreadRipper processors. There's an announcement reportedly planned for Computex, which is only two months away, and a retail launch in the weeks after Computex, into the end of June. AMD's next-gen ThreadRipper details so far: Zen HEDT CPU's are called Threadripper! Each CPU will include 64 PCI-E Lanes! It includes 4 CCX's. Lower SKU(Probably 12/24) 140W TDP, Higher SKU (Probably 16/32) 180W TDP. Socket will be an SP3 LGA Platform's name will probably be X399 Chips will be B2 revisions. 32MB L3 Cache ES's are 3,3 or 3,4GHz base and 3,7GHz Boost It is aimed for Retail SKU to have 3,6 Base/4GHz Boost ES's that are in the wild have 2500 CB R15. Infinity Fabric can have a bandwidth up to 100GB/S Announcement; COMPUTEX at Taiwan, sales will start after 2-3 weeks following COMPUTEX. eta is next week That's not too bad then.
DalekSec Posted April 8, 2017 Author Posted April 8, 2017 So fitted it all couple days ago, working fine (Bar a few motherboard issues that still need working out). My first AMD CPU and my god it runs a lot hotter than my i7 4790k! Overclocked all 8cores to 4Ghz and running at idle around 55-60C whereas my i7 was OC to 4.4ghz on its 4 cores but only ran at 55 under load!
3s-gtech Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 The 1700 non-X seems to be sweeter temps wise, just a bit more suited to OCing. Those temps are fine, but keep an eye and if necessary you'll need to step up your cooling/configuration.

Which i would love to do but also wouldn't like to do at the same time! (Price and if i mess it up...)
