DalekSec Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I've got to the point again where i'm starting to get bored of staring at the same old PC (Been two years (bar GPU) since last refresh) I'm also aware at the huge space my tower takes up in my small room! So i have two ideas, do i downsize to a Mini/Micro ATX (I've had a quick look for Mini ATX Cases and nothing takes my fancy, plus it has to fit a 1080!) Or do i sell my rig and get a gaming laptop? As i see move-ablity as a plus, A 1080 laptop is £2k+ But i could get a pretty penny for my current setup! Any other suggestions or someone telling me to shut up you have a pretty decent PC as is, are welcome:)

Loving it so far, 1070 and i7 to replace my desktop i5 and 970. I'm loving the space saving, and being able to play downstairs etc rather than being tied to my massive tower. unless you desperately want to change the form factor though i'd say don't bother. a 1080 with a 4th gen i7 isn't anywhere near out of date. why not go down the custom case route and re-use the internals? get a 4k monitor instead? I adore my rig since you tipped me over the edge with the H440. The only thing I'd change about mine is switching from my 970 up to a 8GB 1070/1080. Which you have!! I did buy a second hand MSI G70 Stealth on eBay so I could do a little gaming on the move, but i still prefer sitting in front of a 27" screen and enjoying all that lovely 1080 power!

I downsized my i7-4700K-based gaming PC earlier this week by swapping the case, PSU and CPU cooler. I swapped the case from a Corsair 250D to a Dan A4-SFX (pictured below), the CPU cooler from a Corsair H100i AIO liquid cooler to a Noctua NH-L9i and the PSU from a Corsair AX760 to a Corsair SF600. The new case is smaller than a shoe box and still fits a GTX 1080! Edited February 17, 2017 by Arthur

I have a Medion gaming laptop, had a few years now but can still play games decently, they can be quite reasonable! Seeing high end parts thrown in a tiny case with no airflow gives me the shudders.

I downsized my i7-4700K-based gaming PC earlier this week by swapping the case, PSU and CPU cooler. Looks nice but £250 for a case seems a bit much! Plus doesn't it get hot?
Rob_D Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 If you want to become more mobile / have you thought about grabbing a steam link, or something similar (I'm sure there must be alternatives) and either moving the monolith-PC somewhere out of the way, or using the link for "couch gaming". I've also used steam in home streaming to both a 10' netbook and a mid-high end (non gaming) laptop, without too many issues. Might be worth thinking about is all.

I bought mine for £500 off of ebay. i7 4700 HQ 16GB 1600MHz RAM 512GB SSD GTX 870M 3GB W10 Home 17" 1080p Screen It had a qwertz keyboard and a broken audio socket, but £20 for a replacement audio board and keyboard sent for respray and it's perfect

I paid a lot less than that since I pre-ordered mine through Kickstarter in May/June last year (and before Brexit too!). Plus doesn't it get hot? Had a look on eBay for laptops lots of good deals but they all seem to have GTX 940m which i don't think is up to VR , unsure if a 1050ti is, 1060s to expensive atm in a laptop £1.5k+
