I think I assumed at the time it was something PCMCIA related, but just assumed it was a whim purchase by the head at the time who liked his gadgets...

Yes, me too, carrying two at a time at the end of the shift to get them put away in the rack. Dreading the horrible screeeching sound that meant a head crash.

I remember carrying 2 at a time in carrying cases across car parks at remote sites they 'had to be allowed to acclimatise' for a hour or so when we got there - otherwise known as having a coffee in the operators rest room! 1
