I tried some UniFi APs a couple of years ago, all of them failed after 3 months of usage, this was before the UniFi Pro was released...

 

Has anyone had problems with them failing, or do you accept this with the low unit price and have spares available to swap out.

 

I'd be interested to know if anyone is using them in a Boarding School!

 

I'm reluctant to say it, but have been using them for years (longer than a couple) and not had a failure.

We have some of the older units before the new AC PRO came out, I think they were the AP LR model. We are around 3 and half years into usage and haven't had any failed units, from last year we are now only buying the newer Pro models though.

@XiJ Interesting comment about the EdgeSwitches. Here is an order that I'm hoping to put through asap. What benefits would the edge switch have over the unifi one listed here...

10x UAP-AC-LR

 

The edgeswitch has a bunch of networking features that quite honestly are beyond what i use / understand! But a big thing is more control of spanning tree than the unifi switch. Which is just on or off.

I've had the non pro ones running for around 4 years. Other than sometimes saying disconnected on the control panel (which a reboot fixes) we've never had an issue. The school were quoted £17000 for a new system, so we ended up paying around £900 instead.

I'm looking to go Fully Unifi (44 switches, 10gbps uplinks, WIFI, CCTV the lot) does anyone have experience of the Switches ?

Not experience as such but the company that installed our wifi system said the switches were great - but too expensive and other POE switches worked just as well

Just thought I would update this thread with some info about the UniFi AC LR access points I purchased and just installed.

The coverage they provide appears to be better than the Meraki bit I've just removed.

One thing to note, however, and this comes down to me not doing my homework... The AC LR access points are 'passive 24v' ​which not many switches support. This has meant that two of the APs that are in a physically separate building to the Ubiquiti PoE switch I bought will not be powered by either a HP ProCurve or Netgear PoE switch. This is a bit of a pain in the neck and in reality I should have spent a bit more and bought the AC Pro aps.

Now I have to buy two Ubiquiti PoE adapters...

Make sure you get 1gb PoE injectors rather than the old 10/100. You can also by in line conveyors from 48v to 24v. I've found these a bit flakey though. Of course there are also 5 port plus ubiquiti switches you can purchase.

Yes that injector is the gigabit one.

 

The in-line adapters seem a new model to the ones i last used. These also seem to be gigabit now.

I've just bought 2 x Unifi AC1750 (connected via Cisco PoE Switch) for home use and these are the speeds I'm getting -

 

 

This is connecting at 400Mb using an Intel Wireless-AC 7265 adapter and exhausting my 100Mb VM broadband connection!

Thought I would update you all.... I have taken the plunge and completed my install today.

 

Verdict is good on the whole. I have 3/4 faulty switches out of 44 which is high but on the whole (so far all has been ok) kit seems well made in general and is easy to manage and use. lets see how well they hold up ! (Hopefully well and they last a long time !)

Purchased 10 UniFi AC-LR boxes. 9 were good, 1 was faulty - no lights and nobody home; it even made the PoE adapter constantly blink until I unplugged it. Awaiting replacement.

Still, the coverage with the 9 working boxes is very good, if not better than the original 13 Meraki boxes. Happy chappy.

Had 1 which refuses to adopt at all, one telling me its overheating and one which doesn't show in the dashboard at all. they are US-48 switches. Also got 2 of the us-16-xg which are intermittent link / no link
