M25 accidents.

I'm not surprised to see another morning of accidents, hope no one is injured.

 

The one at Surrey this morning involving a lorry but from the experience I had last week this was caused by a car driver jumping in a gap far too small as traffic slowing in congestion causing car behind to slam on brakes and the lorry driver and me to almost have a brown trouser moment.

 

There is a reason why the signs say Stay in Lane Congestion but unfortunately some people do not care, just want to get where they are going ASAP. Seems to be a trend on the M25 hence why leave too early for my journey, no rush, less traffic and so less impatient people on the road.

Drove past that junction last night and traffic was stop-start queueing at least 3 miles onto the M25. There was a 40 limit on the main carriageway (even though it was clear) because cars would try and jump the queue, find no-one would let them in and proceed to come to a complete stop on the main carriageway with their left indicator on. Really dangerous!

The standard of todays driving unfortunately. I've always said its not speed that kills, its the person and their driving skills. Lack of lane discipline, road awareness and the most irritating - lack of indication.

I've been stuck behind stranded queue jumpers before and its very unpleasant as you are left vulnerable. And nearly hit them up the rear too, its an especially bad problem anti-clockwise at J8 for the M23.

The "standard of driving" is probably virtually the same as it always has been. As it people have the same skill levels to actually drive as always, the issue is probably more cars on the road, so those mistakes you could have maybe got away with 10 years ago you can't now, more distractions (phones etc even handsfree) and then lack of patience, problably caused by congestion and then people being tired because getting to and from work takes them longer so they get less sleep at home or are more worn out. Then they are more likely to make the mistake in the first place!

 

If we had bigger roads, we would just have more people filling them, I think it's tiredness that causes mistakes, and lack of patience, everyone knows if your tired you are more irritable and irrational. No idea how you solve that though across the country, probably worse for peeps round London, but the M60 around Manchester isn't much better.

I used to joke that I would see 1 incident a day, when commuting from the Hampshire coast into North London.

But from early this year it became true ... every single day there would be something, and it is luck if the draw if you are involved.

If people are too close to your rear you are meant to increase the distance to the car in front (consider combined stopping distances in the event of a collision) but that means other cars dart into the slightly increased gap.

In fact, even if you are short on the normal stopping distance between you and the car in front, you get cars squeezing in.

And yet when a car that is driving dangerously is pulled over you see people take to Facebook to ask why proper criminals aren't being chased down ...

People fail to realise they are in giant killing machines.

I would strongly recommend that we go for a renewal system for licences ... we all have to be tested again annually.

Cars should be blackboxed... so they can be checked for how far from other cars, how they were driven and the speed ....

And for anyone saying that this is an infringement of liberties ... yes it is, because a large proportion of drivers cannot be trusted.

People ignore speed limits.

People ignore stopping distances.

People ignore lane instructions (stay in lane, variable speed limits).

I'm looking forward to driverless cars ... take the stupid humans out of the equation.

Don't worry - Tesla Autopilot is almost there, others will follow suit.

It won't be long now before no-one owns a car, instead everyone just orders a driverless taxi when they need to go somewhere.

The one thing I do is if someone is driving to close is to increase the distance between the car in front, as you say but not easy to do as people jus jump in the gap, these days I will close in the gap leaving them less room to jump in. Late last week I was almost rear ended by a lorry because a car jumped in the gap 2 cars in front of me, and everything stopped all of a sudden. I stopped in time but the lorry behind me locked up his wheels to avoid hitting me.

 

The other thing I have got in the habit of doing since using the M25 everyday is having my dash cam on.

Jus before M3 junction I believe so effected that area :-( .

M62 is a nightmare. Multiple times this year I've seen something ridiculous. Someone going 55 MPH in the outside lane causing traffic to undertake, cars swerving only to see the driver looking at their phone, lane hogging, no indicators to move out with hardly any space to, people checking their mirrors AFTER they started to pull out in front of you without an indicator.

One reason I have dash cam front and back now. I don't feel safe on the roads and when I can I won't drive, I've had enough. I average 25k a year and see things daily, I can tell within 5 minutes of leaving the house what sort of day it is going to be.

 

M62 last year near to Wakefield car in first lane going so slow a lorry nearly took them out it was soo close. Lane hoggers, idiots on phones, idiots not paying attention, the standard of driving has gone down the pan I think. Young newly passed drivers have no experience, older drivers just want to get everywhere yesterday as do taxi drivers and van drivers.

 

I stick my car in cruise and just sit there, if I was working on my doorstep I wouldn't be driving anymore, I hate it and will even go out of my way not to avoid rush hours in certain places. I must do 100+ miles mostly motorway and very rarely see any form of enforcement.
