Trains and buses are pretty good - you can do a coastal bus ride too.

Another vote of Pembrokeshire.

Tenby is a bit too touristy for my taste, but still manages to charm. Solva, St Davids and that neck of the woods are well worth a visit. The coastal path walk is a must. There's a good bus service so you can walk bits of the path and bus back to your base.

Take the train up to Mallaig on the old west highland line, one of the most scenic train journeys in the world. Hire a cycle there and for amazing beaches just head south for a couple of miles to Arisaig. From Mallaig you can get a boat to some of the Islands, or just chill and explore locally by bike.

The pembs coast path is wonderful! I've been knocking it off in ten mile(ish) parts for the past ten years. Wonderful scenery and some really interesting places to visit, not to mention a host of superb pubs!!

Whilst you obviously can only book 12 weeks ahead on most train websites Penzance returns were still £100 or so. Welp.

Really?! Wow. I did a posh B+B with a cliff top view for £80 per night for a few nights last August and I thought I was splashing out...

Hop on a train and go up to Alnmouth in Northumberland. Takes 3:30 hours but to be fair it'll take you that long to get out of London. Fantastic Northumberland beaches IMHO, great food, hotels and pubs at North East prices.

Crikey, I did a week in July (M-F) at a Parkdean on the IoW for less than £200 and that included the ferry.

Its no cheaper abroad...apart from the wine. 10 days in a caravan at Lake Garda in July/August this year £2300 without flights

I would look at Dorset (Swanage is wonderful), IoW (Shanklin/Sandown) or Somerset (Dunster is just a gorgeous place to be). There's bus/train links to all of these and plenty of public transport when you get there.
