Where can i download images for our website which are free to use?

Cut a long story short one of our techs was told to take any random picture from google to use on our website. The updating of the website was only taken up by him this term and was told that's what the old person used to do. After he flagged this up with me i have told SLT we have to be careful with this due to copyright so i need some good high quality photos to use on our website which won't get us into trouble. Any suggestions from anyone?

I just google "royalty free images" when i get asked for this sort of thing. Can usually find something suitable.

 

Have also used Pixabay on occasion.

I believe, though I may be wrong, that as long as your Google image search is for images labelled for reuse, reuse with modification, noncommercial-reuse or noncommercial-reuse with modification, you're probably alright to use them. Just conduct a normal google search, click tools, usage rights. Similar options available for Bing.

We have a nice camera, so we now take our own stock images. It's surprising how easy it is to compose most required scenes - especially if you don't need people in them. Not ideal at this time of year with poor light, but it's an idea.

I use Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay.

 

But also +1 for getting a nice camera and taking your own if you can

One that I've used in the past is Morguefile, weird name but seems to have a decent search and selection.

I use the snappily titled freeimages.com - they're ok, but a bit limited.
