XP Screen rotated 90 degrees.

This may help someone else in future as it was a new one for me. The display in one of our Science Labs rotated through 90 degrees. It's a pain in the neck to fix, literally. It seems that NVIDIA allows the display to be rotated using CTRL/ALT arrow and I guess the wrong buttons were pressed on login.

AFAIK you can only rotate the screen once logged on, so prepare yourself for a lot of hassle.

I have seen this with Intel. There is a setting to disable Hotkeys. Have a look in your NVIDIA control panel.

Yeah, it can only be performed once logged in. Pretty annoying problem, especially if the kids get wind of the key combination that does it. Most of the time it happens when kids bash the keyboard whilst playing games!

We have some intel cards that have the same sort of software, offering screen rotation. The kids log in, rotate the screen at the end of their lesson then log out and the screen stays rotated. I used VNC to view the pc's and logged in and changed the rotation back, easier than turning the monitor on its side or upside down.

We had a lad who got his mother to video him doing practical coursework. She turned the camcorder through 90 degrees because she thought it would look better. I rotated it back again using Premiere Pro but flipping it on the display would have been easier.

With the Intel ones, you can disable this by removing the two igfx~ entries from HKLM\Software\MS\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run bit of the registry.

 

Much easier than relying on the key shortcut to undo it once some little darling has done it. Also, last time I used the shortcut, I found the people who had been near me at the time randomly pressing keys to try and find the shortcut I'd used!

If the screen is the wrong rotation, then this will correct it.....

Thanks for that, seems like a handy tool to have. Got a few programs that if they aren't quit properly when the children exit, they change the resolution really big, and the kids mess about changing the screen sometimes. This seems as though could be handy

I disable the hotkeys on the system image, then theres also a night little registry patch available from intels website that removes the context menus now we've had to give the kids right click.

It's interesting Intel, Nvidia and probably ATI all include this function, but has anyone actually found a proper use for it in practice? Seems an odd feature to include.

Tis useful if you have a screen which can also be rotated through 90degrees - you get them in publishing places so you can see an A4 page full size but the right way up.

We use that too, but since it runs at logon, if someone changes it then walks away, the logon screen will still be rotated - it will correct itself if you log in though, but I've found people tend to see the funny logon screen then panic rather than log in anyway.

 

I don't think it is free, by the way - or if it is, I want the money I paid them back!

Just a point - if you had searched before posting you would have seen that this issue has come up before and you would have had an instant solution
