That brilliant, rolled it all out now so I'm just waiting on the keys arriving
-
Quick question for those of you using EES, I was wondering whether you get MAK and/or KMS keys provided? I'm preparing to rebuild every computer with WDS but since the EES pack hasn't arrived yet I'm not sure what activation options I'm going to have, looking at the calender I can't afford to make assumptions at this point

ActiView Software Compatibility
georgebush replied to georgebush's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Thanks for that, I installed them today without any problems, I was pleasently surprised by the quality of the image. Regarding the upgrade where would I find the serial number on these boards? We didn't install them origionally and there's nothing left onsite, the product code on the top left is PRM-AB264-01 and here is a picture: # -
Hi there I was wondering if anyone could advise me ActiView compatibility. A school we work for has purchased some ActiView units but I just want to check they're suitable before opening them. At the moment the PCs are running ActivPrimary, the ones I've checked are on V3. Upon looking at the Promethean website is says it "works with all ActivBoards (using ActivInspire)". Does this mean the units will be incompatible? Also if needed could I download ActivInspire using the boards serial numbers? They look quite old, they're orange frames and projectors. Sorry if any of these seems like silly questions, I've never used ActiViews before and there's surprisingly little information available online.

Handwriting Recognition in Office 2003
georgebush replied to georgebush's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Cheers for that guys, got as far as installing handwriting recognition only for the handwriting tablet on the language bar not to work. Turns out Office 2003 SP3 breaks handwriting recognition, the fix was to copy PENUSA.dll from a machine without SP3, this fixed it and everything is working fine now. -
Hi there, I've been asked by a customer to find a way for them to use handwriting recognition in Office 2003 running on Windows XP. From what I can tell for this to work they'd need to be running Tablet PC edition. I was just wondering whether anyone has come across this and came up with a solution, I know ActivInspire allows you to use handwriting recognition within itself but really I need it to be within Office.

Brilliant thats sorted it thanks, the drive was ok, but I'd missed the 2008 in the connect.ini

Cheers, thats got the client installed, but its fails to logon giving reason 0. Any idea what that is?

I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick guide on how to install Sims client on a workstation from scratch. It's coming on 3 years since I last did this and needless to say I can't remember much other than I think I had to edit a Sims.ini? Looking in the setups folder it's installers galore Tried asking Capita but they want money to even talk to me, the school I'm at today recently had it installed by them, which was great because we didn't have to do it but now that I need to change out a workstation it's become complicated and they've left nothing at all on site for reference.

Smart/Promethean Compatibility
georgebush replied to georgebush's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Thanks guys, in the end it seems they were happy with the Promethean Software anyway. Wouldn't be surprised if they end up using the Smart software now I'm gone though Smart apparently stopped selling the licenses for other boards a few months back, otherwise that would have been perfect. -
I was just wondering if anyone could enlighten me as the the current level of compatibility between the two products. Due to circumstances beyond my control 4 Promethean boards have been put into a school that is currently entirely Smart. The teachers have gigabytes of lessons in Smart format and will want to use them on the Promethean boards should they have to move classrooms etc. I'm actually impressed really, almost everywhere I've been with whiteboards they only use them to move to the next PowerPoint slide. I have noticed that there is a Smart Notebook viewer and that you can apparently covert to flipcharts with ActivInspire but what about using Promethean flipcharts on a Smartboard? Am I looking too far into this and is it just a case of having the correct driver? I've been thrown right back in at the deep end here Haven't had to touch whiteboards in years and first step back in trying to sort out this. I can't even get onsite at the moment to test things.

As far as I know now the server mail1.cumbria.cleo.net.uk is toast, so anyone who had outlook pointing at that will have to change it.
-
Apparently webmail (but not Outlook) is back up now, unfortunately the SGD remote access is down now so I cant check.

I'm having a problem with Netsupport School V9, its well over a year since I touched this software so I've unfortunatly forgotten much of what I used to know. I have a room with 20 PCs and out of those the tutor will not connect to 4 of them. I've checked that the firewall service is disabled and VNC allows you to connect to these machines, I then disabled VNC just in case but still it wont connect. Anyone have an ideas on what could be causing this? The connection method I'm using is the default TCP/IP port method.

Remote Control/VNC for Windows Server 2008
georgebush replied to gerkeac's topic in Windows Server 2008
The latest Ultra VNC client works fine with Vista, just make sure you let it download the Vista drivers during install. -
Just look at it as any consumer would, your paying money and they're not meeting your requirments, it might be worth at least looking into pricing on other options. A word to the visiting ICT coordinator by your head of IT could also bear fruit. Worst case you could look at getting a DSL line put in, its not that cost prohibitive and you could also use it as a backup gateway for key machines if ever CLEO was down for maintenance etc. SGD isnt actually that bad, all its missing is the normal minimise tab from RDP. It just the waiting for it to be set-up, 2 weeks in one case and another school I need it for its now been 2 months, submitted for forms twice and there's still "no record" of my request. They could be a bit a bit faster on that side but overall its a workable system.

HP 6720s + Network ONLY in certain areas...
georgebush replied to Nick_Parker's topic in Wireless Networks
I saw a problem recenty when a Cisco switch was going tits up, it did it in a funny way though and started blocking certain MAC addresses only. -
You'll get nowhere with an attitude like, I used to go out of my way to help the site staff. At the end of the day you need them alot more than they need you and its bad enough with some teachers without alienated yourself from the rest of the schools staff.
-
CLEO in cumbria were always a little funny, sometimes requests were handled fine other times they were ignored or botched. The problem seems to be when you ask for something a bit technical to be done and get bounced around different people.
-
Yeah I kinda understand Im not totally innocent but at the end of the day the website just says Vista, not 32 or 64 and as already said if your selling a product you should know how the thing works. I'm slightly more stuffed as its a Vostro I bought for home after being impressed by the ones we bought at school. Brilliant machines, just this one thing thats wound me up. Still not got round to phoning them though. Even if it shipped installed at 32bit but with an optional 64bit disc I'd have been happy.
-
Just bought a new PC from Dell, to cut a long story short it was specced with 4gig of RAM, and a 512MB Graphics card. Now this is where I made the mistake, I assumed Dell would ship me 64bit Vista since 32bit wouldn't be able to use all that RAM once the Graphics etc had eaten into what it can address. Wrong, they've given me 32 bit and as a result I have close to 700Meg of RAM unusable. Slightly annoyed by this, I could have had 3Gig of higher speed stuff for less. I feel a phone call coming on.

GPO Deployment of Netsupport School
georgebush replied to georgebush's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Cheers I've got it working, turned out I had misread it a bit lol -
Was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice with NSS. In the past we've used the remote deploy tool but with the large number of laptops this is now becoming time consuming turning them all on at once and is generally unwieldy. Reading through the manual it says you can deploy with GPO by creating configured distribution copies. It asks for setup.exe, nsm.lic and client32.ini to be copied into a distribution folder. It then jumps to say run instcfg.exe /S on the distribution folder to customise the install, however it never asked you to copy this file in the first place. Am I missing something glaringly obvious or are the instructions badly written?

We've got it here, the interface is horrible but it does work. We just put it on the origional machine images pre-set then we dont have to bother much with the main program, this way it works a treat. Only other issue we've had is with mice on reflective surfaces, tiny pointer movements make it think the computer is in use and it doesnt shut down. Can't really blame the program for that though
