When a teacher double clicks on a flipchart file they get the error message "A newer version of this program is already installed on this computer. If you wish to install this version please uninstall the newer version first" Clicking OK simply closes the dialogue box. If they open ActivInspire first they can open the flipchart, but many find this too complicated. Why is this happening, and how do I stop it?

Hi there

This sounds like a strange issue. What OS are you using? What version of ActivInspire do they have installed? It sounds like the computer thinks that it has multiple versions of ActivInspire installed so perhaps a full uninstall and reinstall might clear the issue?

If things persist then perhaps contact Promethean Technical Support (Support.Prometheanworld.com)

Windows 10 LTSB. The machines have all just been imaged and ActivInspire loaded as part of the build. We are using version 2.6.66568. I did log this at prometheanworld a few days ago, but heard nothing back

Is there an Admin.ini in C:\Program Files (x86)\Activ Software\Inspire ?

Setting key 11 to 1 via the ASTransGen tool removed the upgrade to newer version for our Windows 7 stations and staff users, but does prompt if a sysadmin is logged on.

The ASTransGen used to be part of the older versions of ActivInspire when it was an actual MSI

I've put the contents of our admin.ini file below, and it just sits in C:\Program Files (x86)\Activ Software\Inspire

DJ-1701 tested on one of our W10 stations and it still gave him the upgrade option, but it's worth a try.

I've tried running one of our oldest flipcharts having amended the ini file, and I don't get the prompt. I'll push it out, and see if it helps our end users.

Hi,

The only other reason for that message to come up is if the icon on the desktop is from or pointing to another prior version of ActivInspire. I would first try deleting this Icon and in either create a new icon or just open from the start menu.

I would say the file type is .flp which originally would have been assigned to the older version of the software. The file association with .flp and .flipchart both need to point to the current version of ActivInspire. I bet once you change the association you will be fine.

Hi,

If the old version of ActivInspire is being found it must mean the old version is on the computer or in the file path. I would do a complete uninstall of all ActivInspire and ActivStudio software. You can find a lot of good articles on the Promethean support site at support.prometheanworld.com

A good article to search for would be 1419

Hi clareq,

Has the change to key 11 in the Admin.ini resolved the situation for you?

If not, contact our support team, ask the case to be escalated, and a remote session will be organised with you to take a closer look at the problem.

Thanks
