To give the day its longer title: System Administrator Appreciation Day, however, there isn't much appreciation for me here today. I shouldn't be surprised though, as that is no different than any other day.

Hope your day is better than mine. Happy Sysadmin Day.

My result: Laissez-Faire

Your leadership approach echoes Jack Nicholson in "Mars Attacks." Although you clearly try your dangdest to negotiate peace your users, in the end your noble attempts just wreak havoc on your workplace and thus your life. That's why you prefer the more "hands off" approach and just deal with the aftermath. While I commend you for your reluctance to unleash the nukes on them, sometimes you do have to stand your ground and be firm.

As a gift to your users on Sysadmin day you should have imposed a password policy that forced everyone to change their password.

Is it wrong that I take great satisfaction imposing this policy 😈

A few years ago we had a different network where some of the policies were not under my control, password complexity and ageing included. Before the summer break, I sent a reminder to say that password ageing should be switched off for the six weeks and thought no more about it.

When staff returned they all found that their passwords had expired over the summer (Mine hadn't because I had 'engineered' a workaround to allow me to change my password at a time of my choosing)

The first couple of days of that term were quite hectic, and I got into hot water for something that was not my fault!

System Administrator Appreciation Day!

Again!
