[android] Any phone recommendations?

Well, as I am getting fed up now with the lack of Apps on my Windows phone, I was wondering what recommendations there currently are for any Android phones out there (or coming soon). Any recommendations?

I like my honor 7, sd slot is a must for me, and the fingerprint reader is excellent, set my phone to lock in 1 minute, just pick it up with finger on the back and it's ready.

But seriously, I went through about 5 generations of Android phones before switching to iPhone and never looked back. I loved being able to root devices and mess with them, but eventually I just wanted something that works and didn't slow down after 6 months.

Seconded - very fast, upgraded to Android 6, great camera handled everything I've thrown at it so far... Thought it was going to be shoddy since it's backed by Huawei but it's probably one of the best (if not the best) Android phone I've had, and generally I go for the flagship models.

You can get Honor 7 for about £210 usually direct from them with a voucher. Also when mine went wrong they sent an envelope to post it to them, fixed it, sent it back, all for free.

Highly recommend the OnePlus3 and so do many on here, excellent value for the money, buy outright and use Sim only for the best experience of a smartphone yet!

I recently got the p9 and am really pleased with it. Have always been a Samsung fanboy but this is far superior imo. As you say, fingerprint sensor is brilliant, expandable storage. Lots of people moan about Emui and the iphone style apps going into folders but tbh you can just install a normal launcher anyway so i cant see the porblem myself. Only downside is no water proofing but that only a fall back, i have never needed it before.

 

ps: Battery life is the best i have had on a phone too, on wifi - 8 hours screen on time no problem and on 4G at work i still get home with > 50% after a days use/music etc.

I'm happy with my xperia z series. I've got a z3 compact. There isn't too much bloat if you buy the phone outright or get it from carphone warehouse. Sony are also one of the most proactive manufacturers when it comes to security updates.

 

I'd get a oneplus 3, but I find it too big to operate with one hand.

Just had my second update from Huawei/Honor in about 3 months last night too... Which is pretty impressive IMO. First update was Lollipop to Marshmallow and then a fix for some "bugs" that I'd not noticed personally (notification light not blinking, changing icon styling to suit marshmallow better etc according to change log) and the latest Android patch... Not something I imagined from a Huawei phone, the support from the big boys like Samsung in terms of updates is usually pretty shocking so I'm impressed by this.

Our Site Manager has a windows phone provided by school... it never moves from it's power lead in the office, so there is still 3 Windows phone users out there (sorta)

S7 edge here.

 

Screen - great! Bright, sharp, colourful etc

Battery - Decent. Gets me a full day of use (listen to music for most of the day, checking emails etc). Plus wireless charging is great.

UI - I use Nova Launcher so.

Camera - Decent again. One of the better out there apparently.

Build - Nice materials, far better than their previous stuff however, feels a little flimsy. My old Xperia Z2 felt way more solid.

 

The only real benefit the Edge has over the normal S7 is battery life and prettiness.

 

Good phone though, recommended!

Problem with replacing the launcher is that's only 50% of the UI, the drop down screen and settings are still native.

Honestly, no problem not.

 

My girlfriend has a Sony Z5 compact. It's a great little phone and for day to day stuff, the performance difference between the Z5 and my S7 is negligible. However, the S7 is a tiny bit better in every aspect to the Z5 which, when using it for practically everything every day, adds up to a overall better experience which, to me at least, is worth the cost.

 

Plus i like shiny things!
