Jon Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Hi all... I've been working on this website for school ... I'd really appreciate any comments, critical or otherwise that you may have.. Home - Falcon Junior School
3s-gtech Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Few quick things: Look at centralising the menu bar, or making it the full width of the main column. As it crushes, get it to switch to a pop-out menu sooner as it drops to a second line. The logo and title seems to float in the layout - try to give it more connection to the rest of the body (e.g. the curve doesn't match the rest of the theme). See if you can make the text overlays on the images as actual text, rather than part of the image. It'll look better and be more flexible. Tweak the icons at the bottom so they don't look out of place against the grey background. That may mean transparencies or a white div for them. I like the cleanliness and the scaling, and the info is clear and easy to find. 1
Sagima Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I don't like those white boxes at the bottom the way they are - if you need those logos on it I think merging them into a single image might work if you can;t make them transparent and the falcon logo is bit too far to the left of the school name but otherwise it's not too bad 1
Simcfc73 Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Nice and clean and fast. Agreed about the top menu needs to be 100%... and the pop out of the year 3,4,5 hang around on my PC after you roll off it without the background. 1
zag Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Centralize the top menu, reduce the size of the category button pictures. Get rid of the white boxes at the bottom or at least align them. Overall looks good though. 1
ITBadger Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Consider adding links to the footer items, particularly a mailto: link on your email address. The Select language button also looks a little iffy on my browser (Chrome), but may not be universal. The design is nice and clean though. 1
MkII Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 A white footer area might fit in with the design better anyway, and solve to boxes issue without more work. Logo and school name look disjointed. I suppose you could merge the two into the logo?? 1
witch Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I agree with the above. Are you responsible for the content because some of it doesn't read correctly. Do you want to know what is wrong or is that not up to you 1
round2it Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 logos at he bottom need to have borders or change the footer colour to match 1
Jon Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 @witch If you've spotted any problems I'd really appreciate a heads-up ... I'm not directly responsible for the content but have done a cut and paste job to get it on there!
Rob_D Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 At around 960px width (half width on a 1080p monitor) the falcon logo disappears, but the school name is still offset from center. If I go slightly narrower then it goes into "Mobile mode" and the school name is re-centered. Maybe you could put the logo and name in the same div? I'd agree that the "photo links" are too big. They feel unnecessary on a desktop and the single column on a phone makes for a lot of scrolling. 1
Jon Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 Thanks to you all for your constructive comments ... I've implemented some of them and am still working on improving the site.
