Cashless Catering - Reval Upgrade

Hi All,

 

Due to our reval machine being over a certain age we have been advised that we will need to upgrade our current machine at a cost of £195 plus and installation cost of £395, is it me or does that seem a little excessive?

 

This is to support the new £5 notes that are soon to be in circulation.

The upgrade cost is reasonable - that is how much the cash readers cost. The installation cost though? That's very high. Reval machines aren't that complicated. It should be a simple swap of the device and maybe a new bit of software on the computer. An hour's work at most.

Yeah, that exactly what i'm thinking, going to see if its something I can undertake my self. Surely its not that complicated!

Speak to Cunninghams and tell them that their installation fee is a farce.

 

£395 to install a piece of equipment that will probably fail repeatedly in the first year, they normally do! I've just spoke to them, all they do is take your details and get your account manager to contact you, so it's not worth you contacting them and asking anything they don't know the answer. My accout manager is terrible at contacting me when I asked anything so it doesn't bode well. I told them that I'm not prepared to pay that much for installation when no doubt next year they will want another £395 for a firmware update for £10 notes, £395 to install a new coin mechanism etc.

 

I'd rather not accept the new notes and wait to get coins and notes done at the same time.

VeriCool have quoted us £35+ £15 P&P + VAT to send the note loader back

 

or £350 + £35 +VAT for an engineer to come out and replace

 

So yes I think you are being truly ripped off

Morning All,

I wondered when all this would kick off, we have just been quoted...... hold your breath....... as we have 6 Note loaders....... are you ready.............. from Cunninghams........ New note loaders @ £1170.00 plus VAT, Installation of three note loaders.... £595.00 plus vat totalling £1765.00 plus the beautiful VAT....... my point.... they haven't even phoned or asked us for the serial numbers of the units, basically if the note loader starts with NV90USB then all they need is a firmware update, we actually have one note reader which needs replacing, I have been quoted by Innovative Technologies (who make them) via this link... http://www.innovative-technology.com/shop/bank-note-validators/nv9-usb-bank-note-validator-detail

and if its just the firmware update that is needed then buy this bit of kit, dSupport Tools / Accessories : DA2 Programming Kit

down load the firmware form the Innovative website and do it yourself.....

Please see my thread above..... go direct to Innovative Technologies, we have 6 Revals on site 1 which needs a new note reader at £143 +vat and then the rest are just firmware updates and the gadget to sort that is about £38

Problem with that is that it will invalidate our support agreement.

£350 for an engineer to visit doesn't seems that unreasonable to me. That is presumably inclusive of travel and is a price for the job however long it takes. Companies do have to cover their costs and engineers should be paid a reasonable wage. They will not be out all day every day earning.

not a problem with that, however I do have a problem being quoted £1765.00 to replace our Note loaders and engineers time, when actually only "1" needs replacing, the rest can be firmware upgraded.......

 

Fair days work for a fair days pay......

Was also hasn't been made clear is a Firmware update can be done remotely apparently and an engineer doesn't visit but it is still £395 I believe.

Wow, reading this is pretty crazy, the pricing is extortionate. Have you considered having an online top up only where parents / guardians top up via credit / debit cards and discontinuing use of the top up machines?

A school local to me did this and there was a massive basklash from parents. If you get the PR right to start with, though I guess it may be possible. Certainly we considered it but never bothered in the end, but our cashless catering system barely costs us anything.

I have to thank [email protected] for a very quick response with £133 for the note acceptors. They await the information for the upgrade to the MEI coin unit.

They are based in Bolton.

Also, Innovative are based in Oldham.
