Viatron_UK Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Hi Everyone. Is anyone looking at this at present? I have had the preview added to 365, and just translating the USA schools jargon to UK. Any experiences/issues/help will be gratefully received.
sted Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 i got an email saying id been accepted but on clicking it i just get an error The offer that you want is unavailable. This might be caused by one of the following reasons: The offer has expired. The service is not available in your country or region. You cannot sign up for the same trial a second time.
tj2419 Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 When i try log in I just get the message "Your IT administrator has not yet enabled Microsoft Classroom for you. Please try signing-in again later. " Does anyone know how you enable it? Thanks
FragglePete Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I got the e-mail as well and the link did work for me. It enables an additional SKU on your licensing which then needs to apply to each user (so, another Poweshell script required). Haven't had a chance to look completely yet as I was trying to find a decent guide for it but not had much luck. It's looks like its going to need the data connect to the MIS to work for some of the info. As I said, not really looked at it properly yet. Pete
Viatron_UK Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 This is what my translation of the required UK files are. They must be saved a .csv before uploading.Teacher.xlsxStudentEnrollment.xlsxStudent.xlsxSchool.xlsxSection.xlsxTeacherRoster.xlsx 1
mrnoisy Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Have had a play with this today/yesterday with varying success, the CSV's are a pain as we where following the MS guides which already conflict with the required fields in SDS, managed to work our way around most but are struggling with students, it seems not to like doing 1800 and the error message is not very helpful, works OK with 1 -5 users, I'm going to have another look tomorrow, thanks for the translations @Viatron_UK
Sylv3r Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I got the e-mail to say we had been accepted to take part in the beta too. I've got the licence assigned to our tenancy and have allocated it to my account and a test student user - i'll hopefully be having a play in the next week or so. Is their any tie in with MIS systems yet - is anybody aware of any costs?
Arthur Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 Does anyone know how you enable it? jslate1980 Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 I have access to class room preview but not SDS? Did you have to sign up separately?
Mr_Jiminy Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Can someone please place this in the Cloud Services section?
mrnoisy Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 just signed in on sds.Microsoft.com with my 365 account ?!
Dino Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I had a look at a Microsoft video which indicated this would be free as part of the Office 365 education tenancy..Free is always good if it does what it should do! snagrat Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Be aware that currently SDS data is stored outside the EU until fully released
rpwillis Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Be aware that currently SDS data is stored outside the EU until fully released We've been working with Microsoft on SDS in the UK, and I can confirm that if you are using the CSV uploads then the data will go outside of the EU. I would not recommend using live data until it has been released for the UK at which point the data will stay within the EU. Of course if you are using test data, then all should be OK. 1

But am I right in saying Salamander can use SDS and keep it in the UK? If so where are you with Classroom, are you in a position to support it yet?

GREED Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) I second Richard's point on not using just yet due to data concerns... Groupcall have also been working closely on their SDS offering as a new Global partner with Microsoft. Really interesting from them. Edited June 8, 2016 by elsiegee40
tj2419 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Is there a way to see which companies are working with microsoft on sds offerings?
vikpaw Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Is there a way to see which companies are working with microsoft on sds offerings? https://sds.microsoft.com/#ForIt It seems to be mostly US firms for now. Follett! @GREED . Capita are working with them, according to the conversation I read alongside the recent EduGeek Microsoft Licensing Webinar. I'll be glad to see all our main MIS providers taking this on board. It will make life so much easier than getting them to integrate individually with various add-on companies. I'm not sure where the integration partners fit it, it would be much easier if the supplier just integrated directly. I don't see much point in looking at Microsoft Classroom until you can get the info fed in through the School Data Sync. 1
GREED Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) I would suggest we look below the headlines (for SDS) to what this is actually offering before we get too excited about the potential end of life of integration partners... Also Vik, what is your reasoning behind suggesting it is easier for a supplier to integrate with upwards of 10 MISs compared to 1 generic interface? Or are you talking about integrating with SDS/ MS Classroom? In which case yes direct is perfect (but again look below the headlines to what you actually get before getting carried away!) Or are you talking about integrating with SDS/ MS Classroom? In which case yes direct is perfect (but again look below the headlines to what you actually get before getting carried away!) Hey, my take on it, and I haven't looked beneath the surface is that if Microsoft offer an link to the MIS, then that is a big step forward, as most schools have a Microsoft infrastructure. It's much easier for third parties to integrate with Microsoft, and so from a school's perspective they just need their MIS to work with the Microsoft interface. I can't imagine getting my MIS to integrate with lots of different third party vendors, they actually end up using Groupcall to make life easier - but then you need Groupcall or whoever the intermediary is to work with the third party. Microsoft is just a big player that most people would be keen to integrate with (i believe) so the hope is that we as a school can easily get our data into Microsoft in some form and then sharing that to other tools should be relatively easy if they just integrate with Microsoft. Either directly through Active Directory, or however the new system works with Azure. I know i'm over simplifying probably, it's just in my head that's what I want. Rather than getting everyone to agree to a single unified generic interface, if everyone just integrates to one common interface that is pretty popular, then that is just as useful. It's not fair, but it's pretty useful. We're looking at integrating our systems with Active Directory / Azure, so that there is a common user across various systems. We don't just want system linking, we want SaSO ( ) and ideally SSO, and M$ is our user store. 1
Reverend_Dan Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Got a response on the Sims support forums, if people could up vote the change request that would help us thanks. A change request has recently been raised for Microsoft Classroom integration - ref 1606-3491364. It would be great if you could add your vote to this change request to help raise it up the list. I am really interested in learning more about how schools are using Microsoft Classroom. If any of you could spare the time for me to come and see you, I would really appreciate it. Please let me know [email protected]
zag Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Any ideas whats gone on over the holidays? I get "Your IT admin needs to enable Classroom before you can use it." when I try to access Microsoft classroom now. Teachers are complaining and they all have a license. Clicking on the "join groups" takes me to a new random website
