Hi,

Has anybody else got problems with their Hotmail emails?

All of a sudden since last night I’m receiving a large amount of spam, advertising and junk emails in my inbox.

Normally i get the odd one or two a day but since this morning I’ve received over 80 and every time i check another one has appeared.

Looks like a few of the old hacked addresses back again. (Most comes from one of 3 addresses it seems).

Set these to filter to a different box few months back and it all went quiet, guess they failed again :D

Give it a few days and it'll die down again I bet.

Microsoft's Outlook and Hotmail spam filters are currently broken

If you're noticing an increased amount of spam email in your Outlook or Hotmail account this morning, you're not alone. Microsoft's spam filters for its Outlook.com email service have been experiencing issues over the past 12 hours, and the company is attempting to fix the problems. "Some users may be receiving excessive spam mail," reads a warning on Microsoft's Outlook.com service status site.

Microsoft says it is currently implementing two fixes to solve the issue. "One will provide short term relief preventing spam reaching your inbox," reveals Microsoft. "The second will be a longer term fix which should stop spam reaching our infrastructure." Microsoft is currently in the middle of migrating its Outlook.com backend over to its Office 365 service, but it's not clear if this migration is related to today's spam issues. A quick scan of Twitter suggests the problem is relatively widespread, with many messaging the official Outlook Twitter account and not receiving a reply. We'll update you accordingly once Microsoft has implemented its fixes.

I have a friend who uses Hotmail for their business (scrapyard) when they get any emails from Hermes with PDF attachments, the attachments show as 0.0kb and you cant open them. But when the same email is sent to an alternate address it opens fine, it only happens with pdf's from hermes and I think its to do with Hotmail but I am not sure, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as spent about 2 hours yesterday online trying to figure it out but kept going round in circles. Also I should add they use Outlook.com with the Hotmail address.

This has ramped up again with my e-mail account. Lots of spam made it to my inbox this morning. Microsoft's status page is saying everything's hunky dory but I didn't get this many when this first surfaced a few weeks ago.
