Brimstone Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 So with all the focus on Apple's new announced tools for iOS 9.3 some of you with MDM's may have missed some new tools that are likely to arrive shortly. Namely: Ability to enable/disable apps from running Ability to reconfigure icon layout on the Home Screen Control over notification settings Additional restriction options Safari auto-fill domain control
Blue_Cookeh Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 So looking at this new list of stuff... What MDMs are people using nowadays? It seems like different MDMs support different features for iOS etc. Currently we're on Meraki MDM, trialling Lightspeed as a replacement.
mrbios Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Any ability to disable use of the alarm clock yet?
jaminben Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 We've literally just setup Apple Profile Manager & VPP... does anyone know if you can:- 1. Force iPads to use a specific network and stop users from changing it? 2. Force a generic password for general users and another for an administrator?
InterwebsGuy Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Any ability to disable use of the alarm clock yet? You are supposed to be able to block certain apps in 9.3 - so here's hoping I can block Settings/Clock/Calendar apps! I haven't tried myself yet so I'm not 100% sure if it's possible.
tmoon-mint Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Tested this today, you can just block the clock app in iOS 9.3 1
mrbios Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Tested this today, you can just block the clock app in iOS 9.3 I've only just come back to this, haven't touched it in 2 weeks and now i've forgotten where everything is ....where do i go to configure blocking apps? does that need to be done on configurator or can that be on Meraki MDM? Also a new irritating feature.... accessibility > voice over, any way to disable that? or can settings be blocked as a whole?
RLR Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 It's possible to now block apps from showing on iPads using a configuration profile. You can create a whitelist/blacklist which hides/shows only the apps you choose. I did a quick test the other day using Casper:

I read they are due this month though.
tmoon-mint Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Yeah I dont see the options in Meraki, it is under Restrictions > Apps in AC2. From my testing you cant block the Settings app but you can block pretty much everything else. Tried out the home screen layouts yesterday and its absolutely fantastic. All my apps neatly put in folders on all devices in a few minutes.
RLR Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Is this in casper suite yet? If so where? Yes, create new config profile > Resrictions > Applications > Scroll to bottom to see: Restrict App Usage (supervised only) You can then start entering app names and it'll search the bundle ID automatically. 1

Casper also now supports Apple Classroom, was playing with this yesterday, nice http://resources.jamfsoftware.com/documents/technical-papers/Supporting-Apples-Classroom-App-and-Shared-iPad-with-the-Casper-Suite.pdf#page6 1

Brimstone Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 Does this work even though we can't sign up to Apple school manager yet? Yes absolutely, you don't need Apple School Manager to use Apple Classroom with your MDM 2
RLR Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Yes absolutely, you don't need Apple School Manager to use Apple Classroom with your MDM Ah yes, I will have to play around with this. I've seen demos and looks promising.
DavR Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I'm liking the idea of blocking apps, will definitely be trying that when Meraki supports it! Has anyone got anywhere with the Classroom App? I like the idea of the classroom management features, but the app on its own doesn't do anything. I've read in the specs it requires a configuration profile sent out via MDM, but haven't found any info on how I'd go about creating one, and what the settings should be!

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether it was going to be a built in option for Meraki that I'll have to wait for, or if it was just a case of creating a custom config profile and distributing it. I guess I'll probably have to wait!
Brimstone Posted April 14, 2016 Author Posted April 14, 2016 You may find with Meraki these new features aren't free though
DavR Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Really? I'm under 100 devices, so everything I've done with it so far has been free. I wasn't aware there were any charges or restrictions until you went over the 100 device limit...
PR-UK Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 We're on the old legacy service and haven't seen a new iOS feature introduced since April 2014 (which was DEP). I have no expectation we'll see anything else new until we hand over some money.

I'm sure I've read that somewhere about Meraki.
