And its been named RRS Sir David Attenborough

'Boaty' ship named after Attenborough - BBC News

Feels like too much of a mouthful. The RRS Attenborough would've been better.

We all knew they wouldn't go with the RRS Boaty McBoatface, but we could all live in hope.

Can you imagine if ports just refuse to accept the new name? "This is the RRS Sir David Attenborough, reque-" "The what?" "Sir David Atten-" "Never heard of you mate." "sigh.. RRS Boaty McBoatface" "Ohh there we go!"

The whole process was a bit daft, though. I presume it was mostly just to drum up publicity.

While the ship will not be named Boaty McBoatface, one of the remotely operated sub-sea vehicles will be named Boaty in recognition of the vote.

That's something, at least. :)

But good on Sir David Attenborough :)

Why have they named a submarine Boaty McBoatface. It should be Subby McSubface.

And then they could have opened it up to sponsorship and had Subway McSubface, and Meatball MarineResearchVessel-ara.

If only these people thought to ask me.

In the Navy a Boat is a submarine - so Boaty McBoatface would work fine

In submarines there are only Boats. Everything else is a target.
