I was looking at either the Dell T20 or T110, I think I preffered the T110 but can't remember why. the T20 after cashback on eBuyer is about £210 at the mo I think.

 

I did buy a Lenovo TS140 on a cashback deal about a year back but can no longer find them anymore.

 

Are you thinking about running HyperV or ESXi on it ??

I'm looking at a quad core 16gb ram, I have drives and I'll be running Unraid, so I can put VMs onto it and also use it as a NAS

I did buy a Lenovo TS140 on a cashback deal about a year back but can no longer find them anymore.

 

I think it has been superseded by the TS150 (however they still seem to offer the cashback on the TS140 if you can find it).

 

The alternative from HP is the ML10, Dell is the previously mentioned T20. Just don't forget about the active support contract thing to download HP firmware/bios updates after the warranty runs out.

I've got a HP ProLiant ML110 G4 Xeon 3040 1860-2MB/1066 Dual Core and HP ProLiant Turion II N40L MicroServer sat here collecting dust. Both have had memory upgraded but not sure what is in them to be honest if you are interested I can have a look.

 

I've given up running a server at home now and just chuck the data on my NAS.

I gave up running a server at home too. Wouldn't surprise me to learn that a large percentage of School techies get excited about server stuff when getting into the field and set up a server at home as a learning tool ... til we are done learning from it or the novelty wears off. Then it sits in a corner and collects dust - that's what happened with me.

 

I recently bought a HP Gen8 Microserver to run XPEnology as a home NAS. More than enough for all the movies and other data we have.

Yup exactly the same for me years ago too Totally cannot be bothered these days. Just have a small PC running Kodi under the TV with a few USB drives plugged into it, haven't even got a NAS
