hyb80 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Please move if this is in the wrong place Just wondering what secure remote access solutions people are using and how you find them, do you do 2 factor authentication? Our Sonicwall SRA is going EOL and I wanted to see what other solutions there are?
sllorep Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Interested in this too as our maintenance is due soon and we are wondering if there are other options. Just out of interest, are you using the NetExtender feature, or another VPN through it? We are also experiencing issues with staff connecting via NetExtender on Virgin Media Cable, and staff on VDSL (FTTC) BT, TalkTalk etc where they will disconnect when they try to open a file on a share, are you getting any issues similar to this?
MatthewL Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 There are known VPN issues on VM due to a setting in the SuperHubs, not sure if its related.
BKGarry Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Moved away from All VPN for staff and setup a Remote Desktop Service Server with a Gateway, staff have an Explorer Shortcut (tabled School folders), SIMS, FMS, 4Matrix and Office Shortcuts in their start menu that they can run at home (Office is there purely for SIMS reports and opening files on the Shared Drives). They click the shortcut, put in their username and password for the session and it just works for them. Costs us about £400 a year in licensing but I found it the most reliable way for staff to access SIMS etc at home. They can also use the web interface on their Home PCs and connect, nice and securely 1
ICT_Pro Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Best option Remote Desktop Service Server with a Gateway. 1
Oaktech Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Or DirectAccess if your clients are w8 or higher. Seamless VPN ftw! 2

Blue_Cookeh Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 We use DirectAccess and an IPSec/L2TP VPN as a fallback.
