fiza Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 My broadband at home is due for renewal as it will be 12 months in Dec. I currently have BT Infinity 1 at 38MB unlimited Fibre @ £23. Plusnet are offering 76MB Fibre unlimited for £10 per month for 6 months then £20 per month for the other 12 (18 month contract). I know Plusnet are part of BT but are they any good? Is their router any good?
penfold Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I've been with Plusnet for over a year and find they have been much better than BT as a service provider. I did end up buying my own router before moving to then because of the problems I had with BT so that may have cured some of the connection issues. It is worth pointing out that I've not got Fibre but is something I'm looking into. I moved from BT to Plusnet and the only issue I had was from BT, Plusnet had done everything they were supposed to do. 1
Sparticate7990 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Been with plusnet for years after the disaster that was talktalk, never had a major issue, small issues dealt with easily by someone who will listen to what you tell them. Also handy when i've rung up to ask for a setting change and to have it done without arguements! standard ADSL line for me but get a smidge over 5mb (was 4.8mb last week!), was lucky to get 2mb with talktalk. Also get discount for signing up friends, really cannot fault them, if you're unsure, they do offer a 30 day rolling contract too so gives you a lot of flexibility
MatthewL Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Been with them since 2003 back on the days of dial up when I was at home and my Dad still has the connection having recently moved his phone over from BT. They are the only company I recommend unless there is someone like Virgin who can provide a better speed if that is what someone is after. Support is brilliant, often have issues (BT caused in the exchange) and when asked they will refund for any downtime. I am just about to move my Dad and a neighbor to him over to fibre, personally all ISP routers for ADSL/FTTC are of poor standard and I would buy my own unless its just for 1 person. When you refer people and they sign up if they put your username in you get some much off a month £0.50 / £0.75 depending on package. Any questions feel free to ask, cannot fault them one bit.

robsonma Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Yes I am With plusnet and Have been for years, we use them for fibre at the moment, and as others have said on here I bought my own router as theirs was a bit cheep and basic but other than that they are good. Support is second to none! and its always UK based.

Much cheaper and far better customer service than my previous ISP - Demon. My only quibble is that are part of BT and I HATE BT!
Patrick Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) I was with BT, who give download speeds of around 700-kbps-1mbps (ADSL obv..) and i switched to talktalk who manged to get me 2mbps download rate...using BT lines. How's that work? Never had any downtime so never used talktalk customer service which i heard is horrendous. All other ISP's can't beat this line speed so no point in moving. Also, a little tip, they offer you a line speed, but your the speed you see is different as they offer you it in bits. So i divide the line speed by 8 and it gives me the acutal rate i download at. Example, my BT open reach line is rated at 16mbps, divided by 8 gives me 2, my actual download rate. Ofcom should ban them from giving "download" speed in bits. Edited November 3, 2015 by Patrick

MatthewL Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I had a DrayTek vigor in till this weekend which I have replaced with a TP Link as I wanted the Draytek for something else. I get all mine from here. I started with Belkin and then to Netgear and would of kept that if it had not fried itself. I don't care what anyone says about PlusNet you would never know they have anything to BT, when I have had line issues PlusNet have always done their BT and they have had to wait for BT and its always been them that are the problem not PlusNet so it makes no difference.

penfold Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I actually had a call from Plusnet last night as I am out of contract with them. I am paying 9.99 for standard broadband with them and they were offering to reduce it to £8.50. I thought that was a bit poor considering they are currently offering it for free for new customers. The guy on the phone seemed please he could have me just over £20 over 18 months. I asked about Fibre and they would be offer me £12.99 which again is higher than new customers. While I can't fault their service, I will be looking at other deals.

As others have said, only had a couple of issues in that time and both were sorted very quickly with the biggest delay getting BT out to check the line into the house. Only on ADSL though and I bought a Draytek Vigor to replace their whatever at the time.

MatthewL Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I've had my static way before you had to pay for it Seriously though cannot fault, the only other ISP that could do similar packages internet wise was Zen but it was a little more that PlusNet. PlusNet are active on their own forums too, and they don't mind you running your own servers at home either if using it for mail or web hosting.
sippo Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 With plusnet for two years. First year was paying £2.50 per month. Second year I am now paying £1 per month. Telephone/Line rental and unlimited broadband (Adsl only) £12 pm. Can't argue with that. 7 mbps download, but that suits us fine. 1
