You can't get 1.72 at all and even if you do it will more than likely crash on MacOS

I found that out after upgrading to annoying MacOS.

 

Would you know how can I migrate the Apple Configurator 1.72 profile onto my old MacBook with El Capitan on please? I have 1.72 on MacBook and I think the only way is to just migrate profile over to it from iMac and start using MacBook.

As you have upgraded to MacOS any time machine backup to restore to another Mac requires a whole backup, not just Apple Configurator, the best way forward would be to use AC2 and migrate your profiles and codes across, you will need to move redeem codes to managed distribution licences...

Thanks for the heads up, I still haven't got AC2 working to how I want and was on the verge of hitting the upgrade button.

 

I'm guessing from the sigh you have installed it and found out the hard way? Is there no way you can roll back to El Capitan?

Hi,

 

The only way to roll back is to install a clean copy of El Capitan and then restore portions of the Time Machine backup.

I'm only at this school once a week so I've just set up an Apple VPP account and will start downloading the apps previously downloaded with a normal iTunes account.

 

I've already erased and managed to set up an iPad with all the apps and profiles I wanted but every app started asked for the itunes details that it was downloaded with originally, the only way round it was to sign in on the device with the itunes account and it's not something I want to do really.

I'm choosing to erase every single iPad and start fresh with the apps from the VPP account, it's the only way to be sure I'll have no problems in the future. I've just set one up and it's done it without any problems.

 

Signed in to Configurator 2 with the iTunes account that I've set up with Apple VPP (it automatically downloads the apps then when creating a blueprint).

Erased the iPad with Configurator

Clicked Prepare

Applied a Blueprint that contained the profile with wifi and restrictions.

Applied a Blueprint that contained the apps i've bought (free ones, you still have to buy them even though they are free)

Clicked to modify the wallpapers and device name.

 

All done

 

iPad is ready for use and the app doesn't ask for iTunes details when you start it. Winner!

Quick update.....

 

I've now ended up creating 4 blueprints.

 

Wifi

Restrictions

Meraki

Apps

 

I use Meraki MDM to track the device online and create internet shortcuts on the device and it wont install if the Restrictions blueprint is applied, it also wont install if there's no wifi.

 

So, Wifi 1st

Meraki 2nd

Apps 3rd

Restrictions 4th

 

Seems good now.

I created profiles as student and staff, didn't create any blueprints. Plug the device and click restore after that rename the device and click prepare. Once done add profile, and Meraki will push and install all apps.

 

My issue and a serious one is with the wallpaper and the little stupid device name which was perfect in AC1.7x. Mac OS ruined my 1.7x and now am trying to install Yosemite and re install 1.7x again

So I've gone to update some of our iPads and have been met with 'Configurator could not install [app] on [iPad]. The device has a restriction that prevents the installation of apps.'

 

Have checked the profile that's been applied and there's no such restriction. The way I've got around this is to replace the profile (with exactly the same profile!). Only then have I been able to successfully update the apps on the iPad in question.

Finally sort of got this working, I've got all my blueprints and profiles setup but one thing, am I being thick or is there no way to enable iCloud and Find my iPhone through Configurator 2?

Using Configurator 2

After countless failures and errors I decided to follow advice in other threads and I have created a vpp account rather than use our original Apple ID. This now appears to be linked to Configurator 2 and I can see the free apps that I’ve bought on the education store. Before trying to replicate what we used to have with profiles and restrictions I thought I would just simply try and install a couple of apps either with or without a blueprint. I have tried this in a supervised and unsupervised state. On both occasions the apps are transferred onto the iPads however when I try and run either of them I am met an error message stating “Unable to Verify App” - A connection to the App Store is required for the first launch of “APP NAME” on this iPad.

Now if I connect to the WiFi with these iPads the apps then start up and I don’t need to do anything in the App Store or even open the App Store account. Am I missing a step here?

The workaround doesn’t really work for us because on several occasions we are delivering the iPads to rooms where we cannot get a Wifi connection, we just need them to work offline.

Any help of advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

I am facing an similar situation here. I have 200 iPads that needed to be supervised, enrolled and loaded with 38 apps.

My work flow is,

1. AC2 - Restore.

2. AC2 - Blueprint: Supervise + Restrictions + WiFi payloads.

3. AC2 - Blueprint: 38 Apps via VPP (Working along with Server app caching so that it don't have to download the same apps 200 times)

4. Server app- Create user

5. iPad - Enroll with user account + Rename Device.

6. Everything was working fine after doing that to all 200 iPads.

 

Or so i thought... when i try to open an app, It opened for a split second, crash/closed by itself then shows error message stating “Unable to Verify App. A connection to the App Store is required for the first launch "Insert App name” on this iPad. Please connect to the internet and try again.

I then connect it to WiFi and the App was able to open. This needed to be done for every individual app. And it's a one time thing as it works fine offline after that.

 

But doing it 7600 times (200 ipads with 38 Apps) is crazy.

Please help.

I have a profile with just the WIFI payload. I add that first, rename them and then add the blueprint which has extra settings and apps.

Hi All

 

Has anyone else had the issue I'm experiencing?:

 

I avoided AC2 for a long time but then at one of my schools the MacBook with AC1 was updated to Sierra and that meant it no longer worked!

 

When I first started using AC2 it was a real pain to update iOS apps to new versions as you had to reinstall them over the top of the existing apps manually.

 

After an update, AC2 suddenly started showing updates to apps as a number in the 'Updates' column and, although this meant messing around restoring the download cache that Apple helpfully deleted every time AC2 was launched (!) this was a much easier way of updating apps, you could even choose which ones to update if you were time restricted.

 

Just this week (possibly after the most recent AC2 update) this function seems to have entirely disappeared and only iOS updates show, even though App Store on each iPad shows 18 app updates due!

 

Does anyone know of a workaround or at least a reason this has started happening? Has anyone else even experienced this? Before I try uninstalling and re-installing AC2 I'd like to see what others have already tried.

 

I know I'm a day late for May the Fourth but help me Obiwans, you're my only hope!

OK I solved it - bit embarrassing really... I had to buy a new paid app and that's only possible with Managed Distribution now - which needs you to sign in to AC2 as the VPP ID, not the iTunes one. You guessed it, I was still signed in as the wrong one

 

All now working as it should be - well, badly still but at least as before!
