Same make (Intel) but these are different generations of laptops so different cards. I have since found disabling just KB5082417 doesn't solve the issue so I'm trying with KB5078674 hidden too!
-
OK, tried the fixes and no joy. Re-imaged machine and use wushowhide to hide KB5082417, which is definitely now identified as the problem. I will report back on any more developments but I'll be busy re-imaging a few more test devices and then the whole fricking estate I guess?!! Joy unbridled... Thanks for help and hope others find this useful. I'd strongly advise people to change their Windows Update settings in light of this. Giblets.

I have narrowed the issue down to either KB5082417 (prime suspect) or KB5078674 as the wireless worked on the new image until those little m**** decided to install! Removing the update doesn't undo the damage... I will try sfc /scannow before I re-image again. Thanks for help people.

Hi All Kind of hope you're not all having this but it's a warning in case you are - as well as an appeal for ideas. Lots of Dell Latitude 3520 and old 3380s on my network are suddently losing the ability to connect to wireless networks. Symptoms are: 1. Wireless adapters show with no errors in Device Manager 2. WWLAN or WLAN card option is definitely turned on in BIOS 3. The BIOS option to 'Control WLAN' is disabled - this apparently cuts power when an ethernet connection is made, and sometimes fails to restore it - or detectes a ghost RJ45 plug! Anyway, it's off! 4. Main problem, the wireless adapter isn't showing up in the connection menu at all, like it wasn't there. It just shows Bluetooth! I have updated drivers, uninstalled the device (removing drivers) then installed fresh drivers either from Dell's download site or Intel's. Nowt! I have a feeling it's to do with a recent Windows Update - possibly one of KB5082417, KB5083769 or KB5066128 but when I've been able to delete these it doesn't solve the problem. There is possibly a fix from MS for these issues. KB5085516, but it only installs on the very latest 25H2v2 build 26200.8039 so I can't use it without all the devices being updated - difficult without wireless! I am currently deploying a PC from scratch using that W11 version so I'll update this with the outcome but on an estate of approx 250 such devices I really don't want that as my only option! Any ideas greatly appreciated and, if this has been any help to you, welcome to hell! Thanks Giblets.

I know I'm raking up an old thread here but the title is still appropriate. A few of our admin staff are keen(ish) on using CoPilot for Office 365 Apps. We have a mix of A3 and A5 licences with the admin using A5. I looked at pricing (which seems a bit 'business' rather than 'education' level) but the portal showed it as an invalid product for Academic licences. Anyone had any luck getting that added to A5? An idea of the sort of price league we're talking would be handy too! Thanks in advance. Giblets

For the record I just managed to fix this - updated the iPad in recovery mode. Needed passcode from user and spent a long time recovering data but finally showed up as USB iPad in Internet Sharing, then it was all easy of course! Half my morning on and off...

Hi Bev (and others, feel free to chip in please) Oldish thread I know but hoping you have some help for me. I have a 'Lost' iPad (used Intune as MDM to put in Lost mode) but it doesn't have a WiFi connection so doesn't receive the 'unlock' command. Routine used to be to plug into a mac and use the shared internet connection but there's no option on my Mac now to use USB to share Internet to! Tried using Thunderbolt dock Ethernet (my usual connection) and WiFi but still not joy. Have you had any further issues with this? I am on latest MacOS Sequoia... I know!! Thanks Jon. EDIT: I DO get the share to USB option on a non-locked iPad - which of course I don't need!

RM Internet Price Increase
Giblets2 replied to AverageMuggle's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Sounds like bye bye RM - I personally won't miss you one iota! -
*Gulp* can you give me some idea of how many primaries and secondaries are in your MAT for that bill? One primary I work for is hinting that they'd like to go serverless instead of buying a new server... Thanks!

So just a quick update nearly a year later. They've (Sign In App) announced that this is coming very soon in a recent newsletter. When I asked to be included in the Beta trial they accepted but I've heard nothing since. Hopefully not long to wait now though, obviously Wonde will need write-back permissions...

Just in case people don't know apparently there was a test case which means that you can re-enact the one year break clause if you didn't sign up (or like with us they denied all knowledge, even though we did!). MOVE QUICKLY THOUGH BECAUSE THE DEADLINE FOR DOING THIS IS FRIDAY 10TH FEB!

LOL... "remains"! (in the scanned document above from ESS)

Anyone using Google Workspace as an MDM to manage their iPads?
Giblets2 replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Cloud Services
I want to know this too. -
Sorry for such a late reply, thanks for your info. For the record the company ceased trading in Nov 2018!

[1703, cu] Default profile (Local) for Windows 10 1703
Giblets2 replied to alfatec's topic in Windows 10
Guys, I had nightmare issues copying the default profile so that the Start Menu worked. Been scratching my head and mumbling expletives for hours. I finally found a solution that I think is exactly what I need - I dismissed it for ages as others said it didn't work with Windows 10 but it turns out the latest version (1.1) does. https://www.forensit.com/uk/downloads.html Last option on that page. Extract somewhere accessible to local admin account and run from Admin elevated command line defprof I am so happy this works As always, use your own judgement on this to make sure it's appropriate for your environment... MWB and McAfee Enterprise were both happy with it. Cheers Giblets2 -
OK I solved it - bit embarrassing really... I had to buy a new paid app and that's only possible with Managed Distribution now - which needs you to sign in to AC2 as the VPP ID, not the iTunes one. You guessed it, I was still signed in as the wrong one All now working as it should be - well, badly still but at least as before!

Hi All Has anyone else had the issue I'm experiencing?: I avoided AC2 for a long time but then at one of my schools the MacBook with AC1 was updated to Sierra and that meant it no longer worked! When I first started using AC2 it was a real pain to update iOS apps to new versions as you had to reinstall them over the top of the existing apps manually. After an update, AC2 suddenly started showing updates to apps as a number in the 'Updates' column and, although this meant messing around restoring the download cache that Apple helpfully deleted every time AC2 was launched (!) this was a much easier way of updating apps, you could even choose which ones to update if you were time restricted. Just this week (possibly after the most recent AC2 update) this function seems to have entirely disappeared and only iOS updates show, even though App Store on each iPad shows 18 app updates due! Does anyone know of a workaround or at least a reason this has started happening? Has anyone else even experienced this? Before I try uninstalling and re-installing AC2 I'd like to see what others have already tried. I know I'm a day late for May the Fourth but help me Obiwans, you're my only hope!

We have been waiting for an iPad Charge/sync trolley since December and I'm beginning to think they've ceased trading. Anybody got any info on this please? If so it's a real shame 'cos they make good value and very sturdy products Thanks

iPad 2 and Pages - Can't install with Configurator 2
Giblets2 replied to Driftingashore's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Yeah, we had the same problem only our old Mac had died so we didn't even have the old copies of the apps! I think that the apps only need you to sign in with the old ID once and should work after that, if that's any help? -
I find that you can use AC2 to 'Revive' devices in this state and it also fails a lot less often when updating iOS. Note however that AC2 is a nightmare for app updates and general deployment tasks compared to AC1 so I continue to use AC1 for everything else. Note: Apple decided to store the iOS ipsw files in a different place in AC2 so make sure you copy the existing files to that folder before updating - otherwise it'll spend ages downloading the same files again. Don't recall the paths right now but a quick Google will help you. The final folder is called Firmware in both cases.

wds stops working on clients pxe-e32 tftp open timeout
Giblets2 replied to sted's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
This is a little late but just to say thanks sted for the registry entry - sorted me out when I was in a hurry last summer. -
More likely it's that the SIMS.INI in the windows folder of the client is an old one. Find a working client and copy the sims.ini from the same folder (rename the old one .old first obviously). Then it should run SOLUS and upgrade your client when you run SIMS.
