[ipad] I had a feeling this was going to happen iOS9 and Configurator 1.7.2

Arrived to work this morning with 30 brand new iPad Airs to prepare and deploy. Only one slight problem, I cant. Making them completely useless until Configurator 2 comes out which since it isnt even out of Beta yet I believe isn't going to be anytime soon.

 

The error I get states that the version of Configurator I am using does not currently support iOS9 however the only option I can see when supervising new devices is to update to latest version, which is causing this problem. Apple are still signing iOS 8.4.1 as far as I know so I would love to just be able to use that! Anyone have a work around or am I completely stuck?

We are in the same situation here. Can't really do anything with any iOS9 device until Apple releases Apple Configurator 2.0 - We can't get the beta as we haven't got a developer account.

I can confirm that Configurator 2.0 Beta 5 WILL NOT run on Yosemite, requires OSX 10.11 or later. Not sure how I feel about installing a pre release OS but needs must I suppose.

That isn't the problem. The problem is in order to supervise a device you must install the latest version of iOS, no option not to. Since configurator 1.7.2 doesn't support iOS 9 it fails at this point. Yes Apple is still signing iOS 8 and at the moment you can downgrade to it if you need to but I don't fancy configuring 30 iPads by hand, especially since we rely on certain features such as the removal of the messages app that requires your device be supervised.

No, as it would want to update back to iOS9 before supervising.

Correct, the devices are fresh out of the box and probably aren't on iOS 9 yet but it still wont let me supervise them.

I always thought that the Update device in configurator was only an option that you could select or de-select, or at least that's what it is on mine

Forget that I've just looked under the Prepare tab and that update option is greyed out

When Supervision is at ON, my Update iOS box greys out selecting "when update is available"

Configurator 2 will probably be released on the same day as El Capitan (30th September).

I am hoping so, but since El Capitan is already at a GM build but Configurator isn't, I'm not sure this is the case.

Have I missed something? I'm sure we have our iPads on iOS9 using our configurating MBP that has Yosemite and the "latest" Apple Configurator (I did have to install these the day I did the upgrade). I've not had any complaints so far. I can check all this when I'm in tomorrow.

Are they supervised devices? And are you running the latest public release of configurator?

Never thought of doing it like that, I usually just browse to the path Configurator looks for IPSW's and place the file there. Not sure if that would have worked in this instance.

I've just had a previously supervised iPad returned to me as it had had a passcode added. I ran it through "Recovery Mode", connecting it to iTunes on my PC. This upgraded it to the latest IOS. Before connecting to the Mac with configurator on, I told it not to update the IOS in configurator, I then connected the iPad, it went through the supervise process and has come out the other side all done and ready to go back on to the trolley.

I am running Configurator 1.7.2 on a mac running Yosemite 10.10.5 and not had any issues upgrading supervised ipads to iOS9.0 and today 9.0.1

 

Am I the lucky one then?
