In a lot of my schools, the admin network (+ SIMS) is separated from the curriculum network, with only two machines they are just on a workgroup. As they are not on a domain they are getting the update icon / prompt in the system tray. One of the ladies from the office said county has informed them NOT to upgrade as it will completely break SIMS on the SIMS server, and it is a chargeable job to put it right again. I've already told them not to update but has anyone else heard this about SIMS and windows 10 not working together? Could cause us a lot of trouble if the sims server upgrades from 7 to 10!
Joanne Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 No it's just that BTLS don't want to support it just yet. I imagine it will work fine, but when it's untested you can't say for sure.
synaesthesia Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I'd be very surprised to learn that anyone in the SIMS team has even look at Windows 10 on a professional basis, it's more than likely this is a pre-emptive advice just in case. "break SIMS on the SIMS server" however seems a little... odd. I'd say scaremongering (that's a little harsh) but I'd certainly err on the side of caution. Too early for W10 to say that anyway!
Patrick Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 Yeah i wasn't even considering it yet, but i just can't see how SIMs would break on W10. BTLS are slipping recently, they started out so well, now they don't seem to bother replying to emails and seem pretty lazy when it comes to something other than sales.
hailstorm Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Capita don't support it yet. Simple really. I expect it works fine but if you need to file a support ticket then Capita could just fob you off saying its not supported.
pauldredge Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I have contacted Capita and they have said SIMS wont be supported on Windows 10 and to wait around 6 months and then it should be. That came from Phil Neal. Just like when Windows 8 came out and Office 2013. Capita said it wasnt supported but it did work fine without issues. Just depends if you want to take that risk. Ill be doing alot of Windows 10 installs this summer in various school but we will be telling them to leave any machine that needs SIMS access to either Windows 8 or Windows 7.

JRowley Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) I've tested it on the latest build and it appears to work fine (installed it and logged in, had a look at a couple of things, didn't run a report). Capita are typically extremely slow at supporting new operating systems, so I wouldn't expect it before Summer 2016, maybe even Spring 2017. Edited July 15, 2015 by JRowley

There may/may not be issues with Office 2016, but again I think this is doubtful. It's inevitable that Capita will support it officially at some point. 1
pauldredge Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 @free780 currently doing IT support for a MS Showcase school so they need to lead by example so they are wanting Windows 10 as soon as its out. Will only be on student devices as said and most of them will be off the domain anyway.

Office 2016 works with sims perfectly i have had windows 10 on my machince since technical prevew has been arround and its been up and down with sims working on different builds but i have always found a way to get it working so no matter what sims will work
