I've come across a couple of problems with this new version so far. I get a "Something went wrong. You can try again, or skip this for now." during the OOBE stage. I've created a new answer file with a new catalog file but still no luck. Setup seems to complete ok. This worked fine in the previous build.

Me too. I'm in the same situation.

We've had cryptolocker sneak by Sophos in about 3 of the schools we look after. It's far from perfect.

iPads work fine with Radius. I've done UniFi + Radius before and had no problems.

I've got the 640 as a backup/work phone. It's a great phone for the money, about £100 to buy on payg. Good way of testing out Windows Phone.

Not tried your suggested command yet but my problem was that it wasn't generating any backup file at all.

Hi all Would anyone be able to advise how to backup the Solus 3 database? Backups work using the Dbattach GUI but fail when trying to run via a batch file. Can't see any MAK key for Win 10 Pro. Does this mean you cannot buy it under the select volume licence agreement?

I realise this is an old thread but it was top of the google search results when I was looking for a fix. It is a bug in WDS. When you approve a UEFI device it gives the wrong permissions. If you look under the security permissions on the computer object you will see it has set deny for Domain Admins against the 'Change password' and 'Reset password'. Remove the deny for both of these and you are good to go. You will need to do this for each UEFI computer you approve through WDS but it is better than nothing.

We use Advanced Network Always very reasonable on cost and very tidy looking results.

Just got passed on the latest version of the SIMS support roadmap. It is indeed Spring 2016 that they will be supporting Windows 10.

Capita don't support it yet. Simple really. I expect it works fine but if you need to file a support ticket then Capita could just fob you off saying its not supported.

Well yes true. We only have a handful of schools that have gone the Software Assurance route. Most buy a perpetual licence per PC under the county Select Plus agreement we have.

From everything I have read on the Microsoft forums: Schools can upgrade to Windows 10 for free but only from Retail/OEM licences. Volume licences of any type are not entitled. To get the free upgrade you must go through the Windows Update upgrade method. Once completed you can then do a clean install or reimage and activation should complete automatically. Will update if I find any more details.

I am wondering if you can re-image PCs and still be compliant with this free upgrade licence or do you have to upgrade through the reservation/Windows Update method.

We've had to go for Smart Notebook 15 on Windows 8. 14 doesn't seem to recognise finger input. Seems to work fine with the pens though.

Hello all Just wondering if Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for schools? For most PCs in the school we use the included OEM licences, typically Windows 7/8 Pro. For any PCs needing an OS upgrade we buy a perpetual licence from Phoenix Software for about £35 each. A tiny number of schools bother with a site licence. Am I right in thinking: OEM licence = entitled to upgrade Perpetual licence from provider = Not entitled Thanks!

Good to hear! Would love to be able to push Windows tablets more in schools. Ties in nicely being able to save to network shares, managed by group policy, image them using WDS. Just picked up the Surface 3 on Thursday. The pen support seems like it could be useful for schools and make it less of a consumption device.

Biggest problem with the Windows based tablets is no volume purchase program for apps. Had one school rush out and buy some only to discover we would need to setup separate Microsoft online account for each pupil. No way would I want to take that on.

Yes the UniFi APs support all of that. Couldn't recommend them more. Have them in roughly ~20 schools we support. Biggest install so far has been 19 APs. We have moved on to the AC APs recently. They don't seem to have quite as much range as Pro models.

This is driving me crazy. I've created a custom Windows 8.1 image to be used on a USB stick for setting up standalone PCs. I've got everything perfect except I just cannot get the start screen layout set for the default profile. I'm using CopyProfile in my unattend answer file. This does work as position of the desktop shortcuts seem to carry across ok. I've tried the Export-StartLayout and Import-StartLayout commands on this page: Customizing the Windows 8.1 Start Screen? Ick, neither. The apple wireless APs don't support PoE and are not wall mountable. They end up being switched off at the wall. I've also had them cause a loopback on the network as someone has plugged two of the network ports on the rear into the wall. Apple resellers love to include these in iPad bundles just because its got the Apple sticker on them. I was particularly annoyed when one school had been sold apple wireless aps when they already had a PoE switch in place. Wireless APs should be wall mounted up high where they can't be fiddled with. Really would look at fully managed for a school of that size. Ruckus seems to be the more affordable option of the systems out there. If budget is tight then look at Ubiquiti UniFi.

On further research it looks like Unifi doesn't offer automatic channel and power allocation. Not quite what I'd call a managed solution.
