swiftysw1 Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Hi, Does anyone how to use the new Sims App... Basically we have some SLA's who need to take registers.. But obviously are not class as teachers? Ideas?
vikpaw Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I believe this is a current limitation, in that they have to be teachers.
MrMat Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Hi, Does anyone how to use the new Sims App... Basically we have some SLA's who need to take registers.. But obviously are not class as teachers? Ideas? Yeah it's limited to just teachers at the moment however, at the Capita Conference it was mentioned that they are working to change this so that other members of the School can also have access to the Teacher App. When this will be however, I have no idea.
MrMat Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Any clue on the price of the service? If you have Capita Hosted SLG the it's free. Self hosted SLG is £1 per pupil per year with a minimum of about £200 and a maximum of £1500 i think. If you don't have SLG at all, it's £2 per pupil per year with the same min and max. 1
Nickfinn Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Latest update: The Teacher app is currently being updated to extend access for support staff, and will be made available as part of our rolling release programme. We expect this to be available for all schools by mid-August. Kind regards Nick
Mistert89 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 And we've got it - use it for Sports Teacher lesson reg... And it's brilliant
betty02 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 We've been waiting about 3 weeks for our teacher app and still nothing
teejay Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Have they fixed it so you can select all students in a class when issuing behaviour/credit?
Nickfinn Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 @betty02 - If you've signed-up for the Teacher app using the online order form, you should receive your school's activation details usually within 24 hours via email. Please can you contact the SIMS sales team on 0800 170 1726 or at [email protected] with details of your school - they'll be happy to help @teejay – you’ll be please to know that the SIMS Teacher app has always allowed teachers to easily select one or multiple students to record behaviour or achievement information - whether in class or on the go, in or out of school. @betty02 - If you've signed-up for the Teacher app using the online order form, you should receive your school's activation details usually within 24 hours via email. betty02 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 @Nickfinn - We signed up over a month ago, filled out a form, sent it back, they misplaced it, so we had it resent and still nothing? Will email now.

Kind regards Nick The version of the software we saw at BETT you could only highlight one student at a time, there was no select all option to highlight all of them, yes once select you could add that group to an achievement. If that has changed, please provide a screenshot with a nice big fat 'Select All' button please so I can show SLT ;-)
PhilNeal Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Select all is a feature of attendance but not achievement!
RLR Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 We've got a few staff using it at the moment. We'll be rolling it out to all staff in September. It's been quite good so far. Had some hick-ups at the start but a few updates have been released and seems to be a lot more stable now. Rob
teejay Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Select all is a feature of attendance but not achievement! Is it likely to be added to the achievement/behaviour sections any time soon?
PhilNeal Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 @teejay, it's been added to our change request list but there are higher priorities at present I'm afraid.
teejay Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 @teejay, it's been added to our change request list but there are higher priorities at present I'm afraid. That's a shame, all I would say Phil is use the app for a week and every 20-30 minutes add an achievement to everyone in a class of 30, you'll soon see why it's a feature that should be fairly high priority. The teachers who were with me at BETT loved the product, until they saw there was no way to select all students then it was a complete no goer. 1
PhilNeal Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 That is interesting feedback. I can't say I've come across a mass awarding of achievement although I have come across blanket detentions! There's some interesting stuff coming in the next 12 months that will automate the awarding of achievements and sanctions. 1

Mass awarding of achievements is used a lot in schools that use Positive Behaviour, automatic awarding of achievements/sanctions would be a great time saver :-)
ITGURU Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 We still use 3rd party software for taking registers in the field, then updates SIMS when re-connects to the Wi-Fi. SIMS products are always released too early before testing with Bugs/limitations. SOLUS 3 was awful in the early days but is slowly improving although still seems over-engineered.
ITGURU Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Our staff want the teacher App here, just because its FREE as we have the SLG. I heard that it uses office 365 integration to login - what if you don't use it?
PhilNeal Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 There are several ID options. Google, Live_ID & O365.
ITGURU Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 There are several ID options. Google, Live_ID & O365. So staff would need another account/login? If it's free with those with SLG would it not have made sense to get the app to sign in using the SLG login??
PhilNeal Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Our view (right or wrong) was that everybody has an email account from MS or Google and that this was the right option to offer. There were technical reasons too for not using the SIMS login I believe but can't recall what they were. Edited July 17, 2015 by PhilNeal
matt40k Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 There were technical reasons too for not using the SIMS login I believe but can't recall what they were. SIMS SQL logins aren't secure enough. 1
