minimoo Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 It seems sims have withdrawn the summer release from solus. We had arranged and told all staff we would be deploying it this afternoon (as the school is closed today). Anyone know if the reason for withdrawing the release from all customers is just that it got pushed to the LA's and will reappear shortly, or has a serious issue been identified with the release?

Ghostgame Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I take it you are on SOLUS3? Basically Capita released it to all schools that have SOLUS3 by accident. They have withdrawn it and now released it to all LA's for them to now authorise to schools. If you need it now, I would contact your LA and see if they will authorise it to you. Following the Summer release, we have identified that we have inadvertently issued the release via SOLUS 3 to all schools including those supported by Local Authorities. 30/06/2015 Why did this happen? This was not our intention and so we have now withdrawn the release to all Local Authority (LA) supported schools and we will re-release to all LA's today.
ITGuyWestMidlands Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I dont understand the problem if you disable auto deployment? I for one am grateful of solus 3 for its ease of use and ability to push rather than pull updates to clients. Turn of auto deploy and its really not an issue

Logged two support cases after the update - one for intouch - which might just be it needs until 2 am to update the services in service manager (although was showing no updates available for us earlier) and one for cover - which given we dumped in a whole bunch of room/staff changes to happen from monday, might not be related to the update

The headlines from the lastest (June 15) Technical Roadmap: Headline News Office 2007 support ends after the Autumn 2015 release. You are advised to upgrade to Office 2013. SQL2008 and SQL2008 R2 support ends after the Spring 2015 release. You are advised to upgrade to SQL 2014. SOLUS2 support for the Independent sector ends on 30 September 2015. You are advised to upgrade to SOLUS3. SOLUS2 support for the Maintained sector ends after the SIMS 2016 Spring Release. You are advised to upgrade to SOLUS3. Edited July 2, 2015 by vikpaw

minimoo Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 intouch update came out last night which fixed warning message we were getting and no issues noticed yet today - in fact, thinking about it - I didn't have any staff complain that sims didn't update! Biggest complaint so far seems to be from office staff with how it displays messages within intouch - "I dont want to have to check my intouch messages and school messages in two places as that takes time" has changed to "I don't want to see school (other) messages when i'm trying to check my intouch messages" -> @PhilNeal maybe you could allocate the developers who have fixed solus to adding BBC - Future - ‘I emailed a message between two brains’ support to intouch to fix this for autumn?

Nickfinn Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 We have recognised that when the Summer release was originally deployed, the version title in the SOLUS3 user interface was labelled incorrectly, while the packages deliver version 21, the title in SOLUS3 was labelled up as 23. When we re-released the packages in SOLUS3 later on in the day, we corrected the title to reflect the correct build version. In summary, the package files are the same (Version 21). dapaulio Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 (edited) We are currently in a transition of migrating our sims from Server 2008 with SQL 2008 to a new Server and SQL server 2012 r2 designed to be a switch off switch on upgrade for reasons mainly due to the users complaining its not the time to be doing an upgrade because of their own deadlines I am yet to complete the transition. figuring that my LA has released the summer update to my Solus 2, the upgrade will be ok on my server 2008? Although capita no longer support SQL2008 for the summer release my intention would be to upgrade now, see out the next week then migrate the database on to my new server your Opinions are welcome Edited July 10, 2015 by dapaulio
Ghostgame Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 The upgrade will probably be okay on SQL2008 as Summer 2015 is the first after support is dropped for SLQ2008. More and more problems are going to start cropping up for SIMS on SQL2008 as you start apply more and more future releases. If you have any issue with Summer 2015, you are up a creek without a paddle because Capita does not have to support you until you migrate SQL2012. Me personally, I would migrate to SQL2012 before doing the upgrade.
