Trojan Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Hi, Landed with this one this morning, student users attempting to run the ECDL exams provided by enlight.net. the exam won't load / pass the pre-requisite screen. In the Log file the following error is recorded: java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\et2.qfK7ZXEB\inappx_64.bin": CreateProcess error=1260, This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator Does anyone have any experience getting this to run... I cant see anything obvious in group policy that would be blocking this. It works when logged on as a staff member, so it must be something to do with gpo ? Students also have mandatory profiles. Any help very gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance.
synaesthesia Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Java. Silly sods still require the use of full blown Java, which is likely blocked if you're using Chrome and possibly also IE. Trojan Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 Yep, I despise Java..... It's IE being used. Thanks for the link for Chrome, I'll take a look. Any ideas for IE? They are clicking 'Allow', 'Continue' etc on all the relevant pop up dialogs.
synaesthesia Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 We found it easier to use Chrome as we couldn't get it to work on IE consistently; if I remember correctly it was popping up the dialogue boxes to allow Java to run behind the IE window but only sometimes (seems you already have gotten past that bit). Also had to update the version of Java too, think its 8.45 we're running currently. 1

3s-gtech Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Because Java is still taught to basic Computer Science classes, so these companies can pick up kids just out of college for peanuts to build this junk. Shame, as it doesn't push them to develop skills, and we still end up with stuff like this. 1

bossman Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Well it seems that they haven't quite managed to get Java out of the way, I have ran all the tests from their website and I get all green ticks (see pics): As you can see all seems well! Well you would be wrong because when the student user logs into the website it runs the same test but comes up with "error" in red on the plugin, when you click help it goes on about a plugin not being installed!! If you read the PDF document from them it doesn't mention anywhere about a plugin!!! Infuriating or what? Rang the helpline and they hadn't got a clue and asked me loads of questions which the answer was yes to them all and then they told me they would have to escalate to their IT support as they had no idea!!!! Why do they have the tests to see if you meet the requirements and then when trying to take the tests does it come up with some other useless error!! Got exams tomorrow hehe! should be fun

bossman Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 @SHimmer45 Have created a package in PDQ deploy and it installs successfully but still shows as not detected when the user logs in to the exam, we can however still use the Java route which works quite well!! Thank you for your info on this as the PDF document gives no indication of this mysterious plugin and the helpdesk is practically useless when you eventually get to speak to someone!

(I tried beta.enlight.net but that was the same) I've deployed the client and chrome extension via GP but it keeps wanting to load java I would LOVE to not have to use java anymore
SHimmer45 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 i havent actually tested the "non java" plugin yet. as java behaves here but i havent needed to run any tests for a little while. the annoying thing is that it doesnt need the latest java to run its just that the plugin cries if it phones home and finds its out of data

I got caught out with something similar, i was using the system requirements tests on the login screen as i didnt have an account. Only after hours of faffing about did their support finally reply and tell me that the diagnostics in that part don't run the plugin side. You have to login >_< Must admit though, i've got both the plugin and the chrome extension deployed, logged in as a student on to an ecdl login and the plugin works perfectly in both IE and chrome (albeit chrome still comes up with the "this site uses a plugin that is unsupported" bar at the top, but that doesn't seem to effect functionality.) Maybe i can finally get rid of IE...

We've just got landed with this - BCS/ECDL are visiting after half term to make sure we're all nicely qualified and tested etc. Also, anyone know if all the requirements in Office can be done by GPO? Eg adding 'Compare and review' to the quick access toolbar? Turning on 'Sections' on the status bar? Peter
ass17 Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 We have been using it successfully on IE with latest Java for the last 4 weeks. All we did was to add the enlight URL to allowed sites GPO and add the URL in a proxy authentication bypass rule on smoothwall.

Stations still pass the Java front page test. Using the non-java plugin, so with the enlight EKSLWPlugin is installed and logging in as an administrator. Using a ECDL test user account, then selecting a test to take, ET2 will run the ‘System Requirement Check’ this runs fine down to the ‘Plugin’ test this shows ok, but stops at the .Net Framework test, then 30 seconds later the Plugin shows Error ‘No Plugin detected’ the .NET and the other tests show in progress. The test runs as expected, but I seem to remember under the java version questions loaded quicker. I added s11.enlight.net/phoenix-inst1/s/lw/20150910-0000712-5/ekslwpack.do into Smoothwall Authentication Exceptions as suggested previously Anyone else having this issue? And am I just imagining the tests questions run slower Regards

We submitted a ticket to BCS about it but not heard anything back yet. My theory is the plug-in becomes locked to one user and no other user can access the plug-in until it becomes free.
