Nice renders. I can't see a canopy giving much additional protection so it is probably unlikely to happen...

I'd like to see F1 incorporate a few short ovals in the season. .

Looks like Indycar engineers/designers got hold of it, and we all know how daft that lot are.

Closed cockpits are a stupid idea anyway. Increase safety? Tell that to Robert Kubica.

On a more serious note, they'd have to look at the risks of a canopy in regards to getting out quick. I know it's only a fan made concept but it does look good.

Closed cockpits are used on large numbers of racing cars, there are benefits in safety terms such as not being sprayed with fuel if there's a filling error.

Would be for drag rather than protection. Would probably combine with fender over the wheels. What you'd end up with eventually is something looking like a Red Bull X2010.

It looks awesome but picture 2 is the big problem, rain but no windscreen wipers? Oh dear...

We're suspending disbelief here for a minute anyway... It's clearly got some as yet undiscovered hydrophobic coating on it.

Horner's comments in one of the rags is the nail on the head for me... Bring back Brawn!

IMO the LMP1 Hybrid's provide far, far better viewing... Webber must be laughing his socks off.

And there we have it... :)

Though this doesn't solve the issue entirely though, the rain would still hit the windscreen and move over it, just in droplets instead.

It's got to be easier than trying to see out of a visor when you're beind somebody and they're kicking up spray though?

Well I don't know, it would need testing. Since the droplets are the size they are when they hit the windscreen you could assume that being covered in spray would mean many many tiny droplets. That could be almost as difficult to see through as normal even with this stuff.

Rain and water repellants don't work on fly/bug splats though, also will it work with an oil mist when the car in front blows an engine?

Indeed, there's where the pit crew come ;)

Another McLaren concept: McLaren have revealed a concept F1 car, the MP4-X | F1 News

mclaren-mp4-x-front-lower-mclaren-mp4-x_3384289.jpg

ccording to the Woking team, the car 'looks visually striking, but it is beneath the skin where the changes are most apparent.

'MP4-X is designed to harness alternative power sources; the chassis changes shape to adapt to different aerodynamic demands; and it can communicate in the event of a failure or a problem'.

Maybe they should focus on engineering their actual car, instead of all these imaginary cars... :troll:
